Williams get some spot play in games we are winning by 14 or more points going forward? I'd like to see him against real D-1 defenses for next year. I was very pleased with what I saw Saturday even though it was against little sisters of the poor. I think he could be a nice fit for a year where our 2 young ones need more time to develop next year.

I really beeline from what I saw and Goldens comments yesterday about Olsen, Williams will be the guy next year unless Kaaya is just on another level.

I would like to see this moved under the Ryan Williams thread.

14 points is not enough to go messing around -- a pick six or a special teams blunder and the momentum swing in the other direction can turn a win into a loss in a matter of minutes.

Not until Morris regains his form from the end of last season.

+1

and even then, the only way to maintain that level of comfort and rhythm is to continue to get reps. So, the answer would be no. Stephen needs as much time as possible, cause we can do major damage if he plays like he did at the end of last season.

Williams will need to get some good reps in this season if we want him to be a serviceable QB next season when the rest of the team is primed for a run... Scrimmages, practices, etc will never prepare him the way real gametime experience will. I am hopeful we can continue to play well and build some big leads so we are capable of doing so. This is all assuming Morris is playing well and getting the rhythm he needs.

no, I expect to see him play as if it was just a normal blowout. up by 21-28 at the end of the 3rd or beginning of 4th quarter. and even then, he's not getting in there to throw bombs down the field and run the normal offense. it's just the way it is. as others mentioned, 14 points isn't enough. golden would get fired if we lost a game that way. so, barring injury to morris, I don't see a scenario where Williams gets in to run our offense under normal conditions.

To like Williams is one thing, but to dismiss Olsen because of Golden yesterday doesn't make any sense to me.

I think when the QB's sit down to watch film and Stephen see's Williams making all of those high percentage throws it will click in that he doesn't need to force it down field so much. Hopefully Williams performance lights a fire under his ***.

In a word, yes - if he gets worked into the game because it is out of reach. One can only hope that happens sooner in games moving forward, as this team gets better each week. Hope so.

JHall, I don't think anyone is dismissing Olsen, and I think Olsen was called out just as others have been publicly called out - to motivate them to put in more self-initiated effort.

And I fully expect Williams to start next year, in spite of whatever advances Olsen makes between now and then. The reason is one that plays the percentages: experience and maturity will generally excel over an extended period of time, whereas inexperience and immaturity will generally excel in sporadic bursts.

Willliams hasn't been sitting on hisazz the past couple years. He's right there, and I think he has a lot of capabilities that Morris doesn't have. If you're a hammer, everything becomes a nail - and Morris seems ****-bent on home runs - and is either incapable or unwilling to make more downfield short and medium passes - and then he gets rattled when the homeruns aren't clicking.
