Let's reflect on what has happened since Al Golden has arrived. These arent in any particular order. And my list isnt the final list!
Al has signed two classes. Lets talk class.
Al "seemed" to put emphasis on strength and conditioning as opposed to just speed. Lets talk S&C.
I also believe, and this is a biggie for me, that Al has tapped into the U brand while changing the U culture. For me this is huge. I always felt that Larry was ole grandpa, niice, but could I really take him seriously? I felt that Randy was unapproachable. Now many of his players love and swear by him. Kool. That may be why he is a good coach, but not necessarily a good head coach. Al has been to Atlanta, twice, I believe. I met him, got a pic with him. I met Chris Freet. I met Urs. And overall had a great experience his first trip to Atlanta. In a word, I felt connected. Now Ive been a fan of the U as long as I can remember. Im smack dab in Jawja country and yet Ive never wavered in my love for the U. And yet, for a moment, I felt connected to the U. I have Al Golden and his support staff to thank for that. So connected that I came down to Miami and toured the facilities. Yeah it was a quickie, but it was a blast to get to the football offices, weight room, and practice field. Clearly this is where I have seen CAG's imprint on the program.
It has to translate into wins for us. Does he have to win more than 7 games this year? Its tough because I really like what Ive read out of the reports this year. We are a young squad. We all want to know if CAG will get it done. I know we always think this years recruits are better than last years team. Ok, but I am excited about Morris being our qb. Can he be as good as Russell Wilson was for Wisconsin? I dont know. If you go back to Dorsey weve had, Brock Berlin, Kyle Wright, Kirby Freeman, Robert Marve, and Jacory Harris. Now we have Stephen Morris. Save SM, how did all of those guys fail so miserably? JH was suppose to be a film nut. KW was suppose to be the next great thing. I was excited about RM, and then he went loco, though Randy didnt seem to bring the best out of his qbs. I temper my enthusiasm for SM bc of recent history, but Im not going to lie, I am excited for SM to take over. I hope he does exceptionally well.
What else ya got as you reflect on the Golden years?
