Jimbo Fisher teaches a class on how you pick apart an overly aggressive front 4. Screens, runs up the middle, delays.

You want to talk about schemes, THAT is a failed defensive scheme. This loss was on the scheme. This is what happens when guys attack and run around blocks rather than engage.

I would post K State highlights from last weekend and say that was worse.

But then that would be like you posting a picture of a **** you took and me posting a picture of a **** I took and then trying to have a rational conversation over which piece of **** is worse.

I posted this to make a point. Everyone's on here saying we need to just tell our defensive linemen to get up field. Just pin your ears back and go... that fits South Florida atheltes.... blah blah blah.

Just wanted to give a real world example of how that scheme fails in the worst way against a decent offensive coordinator.

That defense lead the NCAA in tackle for losses and made a living in the back field.

If we had that defense last year we probably win the ACC. The only problem with that defense was the safeties. VT and Ray could not seal the seams up, Mainly do to not being Rangy.

That defense was also undiciplined at times. I think we all would agree that we would like to have that defense than what we have now. We had weakneses cover seam routes but at least teams did not march up and down the field.

I just have faith that we will improve.

I get the point you are making and it is very valid but that was a bad example.

That defense lead the NCAA in tackle for losses and made a living in the back field.*They rank in the top 10 against the pass. Had a lot of sacks.

If J Harris did not have a **** near record breaking interception total giving us a short field all the time that defense probably gives up less pts.

We were at the top of the NCAA in tackle for losses and had a lot of sacks. That defense was just undiciplined. We gave up a lot of big runs. That defense was crazy aggressive.

That is a bad defense I can live with. What we have now and the last two years is something I can not live with.

What's so great about the "tackles for loss" stat? If you're so aggressive that you're behind the line of scrimmage on every play, of course you're going to lead the league in TFL. That stat doesn't make you a good defense. It just means you took a lot of risk.

If I run blitz and stop you for a one yard loss on first down, sack you on second down, and you burn me for a TD on third down... how is that a good thing?

Did you forget that Defense/team gave up nearly 300 yards rushing to FSU and they totally embarrassed us at home? Winning the ACC with that D was not going to happen but yes the TOs didn't help anything.

You have a very valid point.

At least with that defense it took a pretty good OC and QB to pick them apart. Our current defense makes everyone look like the Packers offense. That is where most of the complaints are coming from. The worst offenses put up 500 yards on us.

Do you agree that if we made one or two stops last year our record goes from 6-6 to possibly 10-2? That defense would have made a few of those stops.

If we make the fourth down stop against V Tech or got off the field on 3rd down we would be 7-5

A few stops at Maryland who had a dredful offense we would be 8-4

Just a few stops at when K State came to Dolphin Stadium we would be 9-3

We don't have the horses to run it right now. It seems like our coaches have made a decision to invest in the future. Let the kids run with the scheme so they learn it. Better to win a championship in 2 years than to win 9 games this year and not really improve.

What we are missing right now is DE's. Coach Snyder saw that and he game-planned around it, and exposed us Week 2 of the season (which sucks balls).

I had a debate on here a month or so ago where I said DE is more important than tackle, and nobody believed me.

I actually think our tackles played well on Saturday. With this scheme, what we're missing is that one DE or DE/LB combo guy who can blow up the backfield AND fit the run on the perimeter.

Matthew Thomas, I'm looking at you.

That game much like many in the Shannon era was about preparation and intensity/effort not "scheme.". Although you do make one good point--when we lose the "scheme" always sucks. Most of the people sitting on this board talking about this and that "scheme" really have no idea of what a defense is doing or trying to do in any specifics.

Nope, that game was all about scheme. There is a reason NFL defenses don't attack like that. The offense can either just get behind them (screen pass), or they can just run right through the gaps created in the middle of the line (run up the middle).

Lol, ok. No NFL defense plays 1 gap upfield. You're right. It's another fatally flawed defense run by a guy who's done nothing but play or coach football for 25 years. Now remind me what your background is again.

It is funny how we use to complain about that defense..lol We would die to have that defense now.

I remember when coach D'O was hired I was hyped. When I read and listen to him speak how he like multiple fronts and attacked the offense from various areas....I was like a kid in the cookie store.

When Lu dropped the info that he ran a hybrid we had a long post about what kind of fire blitz packages we may see. How Bucanan was going to now be a monster blitzing and Spence playing like a mad man on Zone Blitzs.

Ray Ray was going to be a Rover like what V Tech uses.

Geez I thought that no one could blitz any less than Randy but coach D'O has to be the king of not blitzing...lol Coach D'O takes bland to another level.

I have faith tho so I am not to worried.

D'Onofrio in 13 games has probably blitzed more than 5 years of Randy as DC.

Most of you aren't noticing it because A) it's not getting home & B) our defense is getting gashed.
It's funny how blitzes are only noticed when they work.
Go rewatch 2nd half of BC game 2 weeks ago.

LSU uses it quite effectively. Heck they even have their mustang package (3-2-6) which is all about penetrating and blitzing. Chavis tailored his scheme to his personnel bc at UT he was a bland 4-3 guy.

Better yet, how about if D'onforio had the 2010 defensive players full year in 2011 we would have had a top 10 defense and gone undefeated.
