Other examples:

2006 ACC champ Wake Forest, 66th overall class in 2006, 65th overall class in 2005, 102nd overall class in 2004.

Any GaTech that played in the ACC CG, any UNC team to play in the ACC CG, any Duke team to play in the ACC CG.

This season: Troy beat LSU, Howard beat UNLV, Pitt beat Miami.

Previous seasons: Appalachian St. beat Michigan, Georgia Southern beat UF, Boise beat Oklahoma, Utah beat Alabama.

If stars mattered, these upsets don't happen and schools like Wake, Duke, UNC, and GaTech don't play in the ACC CG or win the ACC.

Less talented teams beat more talented teams. All sports, at all levels. Both talent and coaching matters. It was discussed, obviously recruiting rankings are not perfect. But by stacking blue chip recruits, you give yourself a better chance. If you have a good coach, you give yourself a better chance. You have the best chance if you have both.

OP attempt at correlation of recruiting class rank to the record attained that same year makes very little sense. Maybe if they looked at the previous 4 or 5 years worth of recruiting prior a teams record it would have some credence for argument. Otherwise purely academic.

If stars don’t matter then the top programs would not fight tooth and nail over the 4 & 5-Star recruits.

On second thought, this is clearly a troll post.

Lots of different factors go into why teams wins and lose. Recruiting is just a part of that. Coaching aspects like game planning, player usage etc. also factor into to this.

As a coach not only do you have to be good with x's and o's you also need players and have the right atmosphere etc.

If you're truly a good/great coach you'll be good/grate in every aspect which will bring the wins.

Those classes were all filled with 3 stars dumbass. You didn't analyze the content of the classes at all, just the ranking. ******* dumb.

People that have no understanding of basic math should not be making these posts. You can't give us single examples of upsets. You have to look at all of the data.

completely unscientific to show the results of one team. need a much larger sample size to conclude stars don't matter as opposed to a case of miami developing, coaching or evaluating poorly.

This is probably one of the dumber posts I've read on here. OP should look into taking an introductory level college statistics class to help him grasp super advanced concepts such as correlations, trends, and outliers.

Anybody that says stars don't matter (the coaching and develop have to be there as well) has their head up somewhere.

Those that say stars don't matter don't want to be permanently installed at the top ranks of college football with an elite program.

Can't tell if trolling or not because this post is so **** bad

I'm not caught all up in stars, but you definitely need elite talent to win, Look at the past 10 national champions, then look at their last 3 recruiting classes prior to them winning the championship.

Not sure how you expected a top recruiting class to equal an elite team in their freshman year. Most of the guys aren't even on the field in the first year.

The bottom line is this.........

STARS matter to those who get them.
STARS don't matter to those who cant get them.

Its human nature people value what they can get and try to devalue what they cant get

Agree, bad analysis. All about evaluations. Some staffs are better at identifying talent regardless of how they are ranked. Technology has made rankings more accurate.

It’s absolutely unarguable that the teams composed of a majority of 4 and 5 Star players win the most. Anyone trying to refute that fact is ****ing in their own mouths.

There will always be teams that underachieve relative to their talent. However, facts are facts on the 4 and 5 star percentage of the roster.
