Why not use a bootleg on 3rd or 4th and 1

Since we haven't done it all year it would be a good time as the defenses are so bunched up with a decent fake Morris should gain substantial yardage if they try it. It sure can't hurt as we have been pathetic since game 1 in crucial 1 yard to go plays.

Any simple dive play up the middle should work, preferably to Hagens. Anything but a stretch play out of the pistol which is probably the worst run you could possibly call in that situation.

The bootleg is worth a try as defenses are bunching up and any play that takes time for QB to get ball to RB is asking for failure. Bootleg and throw to TE or run it. we have been very pathetic on short yardage in red zone having worst TD scored in red zone Pct in ACC

It is a sad commentary that we have to resort to trickery to get 1 yard against an undersized Wake Forest defense. But it's not necessarily a bad idea, bc we have been woeful for years in short yardage situations. It's incredible how much penetration the opposing DL will get, and we rely on our RBs to make people miss in the backfield before they can even think about getting the first down or touchdown.

You can try to think of all the different ways to succeed on 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1, but if we just give it to Duke on a power run or a stretch play, he gets that yard on sheer will alone.

No way Duke doesn't get that 4th and 1 that Crawford missed.
No way in the world. Crawford missed the quick crease then kept trying to stretch it and got pretty much close lined.
As we've seen with Duke, he gets low and drives for that yard.

Crawford is a good back, and Hagans is a good fullback, but if it's 4th and 1 with our season on the line, Duke is the guy I want running it over any back in college football.

Hagens up the middle for a yard. Just a thought.

I keep thinking the same thing; there has to be a reason they haven't been using him. It's too obvious, it's not like this is some crazy idea thought up by fans, one can often expect that you would go to your FB every now and then in short yardage situations, but I can not recall once when we have with Hagens. He must not do it well in practice or something.

I'm guessing he came to Miami to only block :/

Against Maryland in 2011 Hagens ran for 1st down on 3rd and short 3 times and hasn't had as many tries since.
