Why Mark Richt Will Cleanup in 2017

As I look at LSU's recruiting, they look like they are "effortlessly" putting together this great 2016 class. At the same time I realize that most of that talent is right out of their own backyard. I think about why is that. How did they basically create their version of "The State Of LSU"? Yes they are in the SEC. Yes they have mega facilities. Yes they have a super coaching staff. However, I don't think either of those are the MAIN REASON. I think the main reason is one word. PERCEPTION. Those kids grew up watching LSU being a perennial top 10 team year in and year out.

These kids in the tri-county haven't seen one great Miami team since they've been alive watching football. Not one. They've never seen Miami even play in the ACCCG. Miami has carried the perception of "Middle of the road" for 10+ years, thus the reason why we have been struggling to keep top tri-county kids home. When Butch got Miami popping in the late 1990's/2000, FSU and UF couldn't come down here and cherry pick, nor any SEC teams because Miami had the perception of being the "It School".

That brings me to why Mark Richt will cleanup in 2017. I believe Mark Richt and his staff finally gets Miami to the ACCCG this season and finally changes the perception about Miami. FSU, UF and the SEC can't afford for Miami to be good because that fence will be built. If Miami just gets to the ACCCG this season, these kids will not only flock to Miami, but we will also do the "cherry picking" again. The power of perception.

Totally agree. But a side note in regards to this class.. it's was for Kirby smart to go to UGA and close on kids he'd been recruiting to bama and that were also considering UGA.. richt is having to convince kids to consider miami when they never had interest in the school prior to his arrival. Thats very hard to do. Logan guidry Carter malek young and all these other guys didn't even consider UM be for richt. It's hard to change their minds when they've considered or been committed to lsu Arkansas etc.. just saying

Yes I know what Richt has to do this cycle. What I'm saying is, what Richt ultimately is faced with is shaping the perception of the program. Miami has been down so long that these tri-county kids don't have any recollection of what a good Miami program looks like, so by default, Miami is way down their totem poll of consideration for a lot of them. If Miami was good these last several years, kids like Calvin Ridley and Dalvin Cook would've stayed right here.

Louisiana kids take pride in putting and playing at LSU. In addition to it being the only major school in the state.

South Florida kids don't have that same pride and along with the other two big schools in the state, the entire county comes here for talent.

Richt is going to need to win and win quick. Luckily for us, right now his name alone is keeping us afloat this cycle

The entire country also recruits Louisiana as well. Let's say LSU was down. They would get a few of those kids, but a lot of those kids would flock to Bama, FSU and other programs who are up. It's mostly a perception thing. Just remember this. If Miami just simply makes it to the ACCCG, watch how the perception drastically changes about the program. There would be no more cherry picking from the outside.

Maybe so but there also isn't 2 other schools in the immediate area that they have to contend with. It creates a more likely chance that those kids stay in Louisana

If you grew up in South Florida, what are the chances you've been to a FSU or UF game at their stadium? Most likely 0%. It's not that these kids grow up being FSU or UF fans, it's that the perception is Miami is down. These kids grew up watching Tim Tebow and more recently Jameis Winston win a championship. Richt just needs to alter that perception and it begins with winning the Coastal. These kids need to see a game where Richt gets drowned in Gatorade for winning the big one. Perception my boy, perception.

Here's the winning answer right here. LSU is considered one of the best jobs in the country because they don't have in state competition. They will always clean up in state and as long as they stay 8-9 wins every yr they will continue to get a few out of state ballers as well. We never have and never will completely shut down SoFla. And it will only get tougher with people like Harbaugh bending the rules, national 7on7 competitions etc. 15 years ago Miami kids couldn't afford to take visits throughout there junior yr and the summer before senior year. These days they have people like Genron and Luke bringing them to Bama, LSU, Clemson, etc on "roadtrips".

Once/If we get to 9 wins+ consistently we will be a top 10 recruiting class every yr again. We have the talent and have good enough coaching to do damage this yr. And that NEEDS to happen at this point. When was the last time we had on the field momentum at the end of the yr???

its not just perception. amari cooper wanted a u offer never got it. that alone should of been a red flag on golden. cooper went to bama because miami never recruited him. joey bosa i don't believe was recruited by miami either.

miami coaches have to find the kids they really want in south florida and put the full court press on. most of them want to play at miami, even with it down. but u have to recruit the right ones.

u can't put them in positions where they have to gain 50lbs and are 2 gapping when they are best suited for a 1 gap attack scheme , which is what did to chick and chad thomas.

this staff alone is head and shoulders better. the scheme fits south florida kids better and they will go after the kids they want and nto give up recruting them just cause they may verbal somewhere. rich, kool and them are used to having to recruit against bama and osu golden and his staff weren't and lost alot of those battles.

winning will help but actually offering sf kids as main guys and not used as fall back will help also.

We're already panicked to the degree this thread is necessary?

i am not panicked. i think ammon richards, sam bruce, randrecous davis all come to miami at wr to go with mullins, williams, i think we get at least 1 of southall and guidry at dt maybe both plus tyrick martin, i th ink richt closes strong in 16, its just hard to pull guys who have been commited elsewhere this late

had miami been on a bunch of kids richt is after under golden maybe have a better shot. i t hink most people on here think byrd, richards and bruce go elswhere i don't i think all stick to miami. i think miami will close strong and end up with a top 15 class. i could be wrong.

17 will be better just because richt and staff will have a full year to recruit these kids not 2 months.

These idiots expected Richt to close with a top 10 class a month and half after being hired. SMH

News flash: We have sucked for a decade.

I agree, also I think time is a big factor. Look at Harbaugh's first class and then look at the one he has now and can potentially close even bigger. Of course I want the best possible for this class, but as long as we close on main targets that we already had prior to the hire of Richt (e.g. AR15) I'll be happy. It's amazing that we're even in the conversation and getting visits from top of the line guys that never even shown interest in us before. I'm really excited to see how we are looking this time next year.

Hopefully he cleans up next year. It's his 'honeymoon' year. If he doesn't clean up next year, it'll be a sign of a problem.

It's gonna take more than 1 ACC CG appearance to change the perception of Miami as a ****** football school. It will take a
Few years of winning.

Stopped reading after Cooper was never offered. People post too much bullsh1t on this board.
