You can put a bandaid on certain positions ala Ole Miss, 2023 FSU etc. with the portal. You can also get destroyed like USC, FSU this year, Miami last year etc. If the portal acquisitions fail and you have no underlying talent behind it.

It needs to be a blend. There’s no perfect percentage imo, but both need to be prioritized. The portal is an asset, and we reside in a recruiting hot spot / have Texas, Louisiana and other connections to states with rich talent.

at some point you have to stop depending on the portal. or else WTF is the point of recruiting? hey 16-17-18 year old kid, come to miami!!! 3 months later LOLOLOL we replaced you're spot with a portal kid, wait a year.... 1 year later. LOLOLOLOLOL we went back to the portal and replaced you again.


do that enough times and kids going to start telling you to kick rocks.
