If Al Golden was the head coach in 2008?

Recruiting: Some of the guys we missed with Top Ramen Shannon. Who would have Golden flipped? I think Al could have pull Patrick Peterson(I know I know there is more to it)

Player Development: Marcus Robinson, Oliver Vernon, Sean "destroyer of screens" Spence with 3 year of Al program..Sick!

With all things considered. Being as objective as can be, I think we would have play in MNC In 2011.

What do you think?

OP - doesn't your brain hurt trying to even fathom "What Ifs" like that? I need a nap just reading your post. I'm eager to forget the Shannon era.

GT this weekend.

Kinda offbeat but...

USC in the late 80's thru late 90's saw what can happen to an elite program when you have two consecutive bad hires. It took a Pete Carroll to get them back on top.

We are now seeing a similar pattern at UM.

Why look back, its painful, be thrilled where we are as a program and 2013 football team, what if's and doom and gloom are a thing of the past trust in the plan, process, implementation, execution and return to prominence, all good why dredge up the obvious downfall program has taken. Time to reclaim our place in college football, we are getting there with the Don

then USC may be in the same situation if they fail on the post kiffin hire.

How much did he learn at Temple though?

I mean he's obviously fantastic, but I wonder if part of the reason he's fantastic is that he cut his teeth at Temple and made his mistakes there.

Agreed. That's why I think they had someone in mind for next season prior to letting Kiffen go. They have to know how important their next hire is.

Moreover, look at what's happened to the rest of the pac 10 since USC has gone on probation. UCLA looks strong. Oregon and Stanford are both legit top 5 teams. Washington and Arizona are on the rise.

Its similar to the rise of the SEC during the shan-coker era, no?

what time frame are you guys talking about my brain doesn't recall who these wanna be coaches are?

seriously though.. the emotional damage that fester and shammin have inflicted on us as a fan base is unmeasurable. we should file suit against those clowns for emotional distress!! I think we have a pretty good chance to win compared to some of the lawsuits out there that have paid out. heck fester and shammin make me feel like they sanduskied me. promised me one thing as a fan and then just gave it to me in the ***!

:neonu:

A better question is where would we be if he said, **** it, and blew town after the first year. Alot of chest thumpers here think everything would of been just great because any great coach would have jumped at the opportunity to be a part the U regardless of the Shannon dysfunction that existed and NCAA hovering over the program.

I would suggest otherwise. Golden hanging around, especially now considering his recruiting ability under duress, probably saved us from an additional decade of mediocrity or worse.
