Is he more of a plan B type of recruit that Miami is looking at?

Are there just LB recruits that Miami has higher on their list right now?

I mean the guys Miami is looking at (Kearse, Thomas, Grace, and Ogundeko) are OLBs.

Deeb told me they're looking at him hard but wants to see him perform in camp. There's a lot of talk that he's not really football smart, but from the guys highlights and stats from last season it seems the kid knows what he's doing at MLB!

So it seems he is going to be one of those recruits that have to perform well in the camps over the summer to add an offer.

From his highlight tape he looks athletic. I mean he isn't as athletic as a Grace or Thomas but he looks like a solid MLB prospect.

In a limited numbers class, a lot of kids are going to need to earn offers at camp or onfield as seniors.

He's instinctive but he's inexperienced, so that's probably what those people are referring to.

The information around internet(Caneinsider, Canespace, twitter)
- Only 3 years playing football;
- Of these 3 years, the first 2 Deeb was playing as DE. What make his highlights impressive for a first year MLB coming from the DL;
- Coach D began to call him regularly last month;
- Was told Miami coaches are sold on him off the field(academics, work ethic, leadership), but want to see if he can be a 3rd down LB;
- Deeb is working hard to show coaches he can be this LB. Run a 4.65 and is working hard on his COD skills.

Imo, in a normal year(size class wise) this young man would have been offered, and with the way he loves Miami, committed. Until some time ago, we were in a good shape to slow play him, but the level of his offer are improving(was offered by Boise and Notre Dame recently) and Miami is losing some ground.

Deeb is severely underrated(only The Ringer and ESPN have him rated above 3*), and seeing the way people talk about him, you think Michael Deeb´s a 5´11 190lbs MLB running a 5.10 forty...

Fantastic post. Good info and analysis. fwiw most of the scouting team for TheRinger has him at 6.0 4* or 6.1 5*. That's how highly we think of him. The ones who like him the least still have him as a 5.8 4*. With that being said, Jermaine Grace, Matthew Thomas and George Williams also have high grades.

Yep. You simply have to look at our numbers and then look at the kids we are in on and some really good players are going to be left out this year.

A lot of guys are in the same position as Deeb.

Also I agree with BrazilCane. Last year I think he would have been offered by now and he looks like a really good one.

Thanks Man... I forgot to give credit to TheRinger(and to write it right. lol) at the top of my post.

Just recently I´ve been there, and love the information available. Also, really like the way you can rate the player and the bold predictions by the staff about the player College choice.

Back to Deeb, interesting to see most of the scouting team rate him so high. Generally players like him carry the taint of slow, Big-10 LB, with a low ceiling. People tend to put Deeb´s type in same boat every year. Nice to see people really looking at the player and not the stereotype.

I hope he earn an offer in Camp...

Coverage is definitely his weakness right now, so I agree with our coaches in that sense. In Deeb's highlights you can see he doesn't get great depth in his drops and so his range is limited in coverage. He has good feet and he's instinctive so I think he just needs more experience at LB to get the coverage drops in his muscle memory. I don't think it will be a long-term issue.

As for speed...yes he's not a blazer but he's definitely fast enough for an inside guy. Again he's quick and diagnoses quickly so he has no trouble getting in the backfield or out on the edge on outside runs. We don't need to have 3 Perrymans on the field at LB, and having a thumper like Deeb (he's already 240+) would be a major asset.

Have seen this discussion in other forums (i.e. grassy). Some (DBC) think this guy is at the top of UM's list at LB which i do not believe is the case. I agree that the guy in a normal year would have already been offered. I do htink he is a plan b or even C type player on the UM board. He is a thumper butfrom the film I have seen on him, he lacks the fluidity and explosiveness that others on the board show. He is tough but also lacks technique for instance, he was abused here by Kelvin Taylor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITlotS525QU

Well if DBC says he's top of the LB list, then Golden is ******* this one up!!

He told people in canensider that coach D was straight to him: We like you but can´t offer on potential alone. Said where he need to improve and that they will be watching him in spring. Deeb said it good to know where he is on Miami board.

@TreOFive: Thanks for post this video, since I just read about this incident. You know what, reading at the time in twitter, I thought Deeb was destroyed ala M. Jones Drew vs Merriman. What I see here is a luck play by Taylor, since Deeb tried to spin and lose balance... meh!

For me, after see this video, I have even more respect for Deeb. He is a better person than I´m because took the incident as a pro... I would have kicked that gator punk a$$.

In a perfect world, this kid will earn a Miami offer and will give the pay back in the near future in Florida´s backfield...

@ brazil...I feel you on the vid...Taylor and I would have scuffled for that. Yeah he got caught trying to spin but that is where I referenced his tech. (which could always be improved through coaching). But as you have highlighted, he wont be offered on potential alone. If he wants an offer, is willing to work for it, and earns one then he will get one. If after hands on evaluation he does not end up getting an offer, then I trust the coaches and that they apparently have someone else with more skills and potential in mind. In that case I wish Deeb the best

That drill is worthless. When have you ever seen a RB block a LB with 2 feet of momentum carrying him. Let Deeb get 3 yards of momentum and then see who wins.

Deeb needs to run in the 4.6 range to get an offer IMO.

Agree...

By the way, we always heard about coach Golden methods, and how he does not BS or deceives recruits... I think Deeb´s case fits it perfectly. Coach D told him where he is and why he does not have an offer yet in an article I read. I really like this approach... sure, some players will get mad(Bosa?), but others will take it as motivation to earn an offer, and from what I read, that was Deeb´s response to coach D.

Like you, I really trust our coaches and the player is aware of what he needs to do to earn his offer. As a fan of the position, Deeb is one of my favorites in 2013 class, but we finally have a coach with a plan(for every facet of the program), and even if Deeb become an All American in Penn State or Notre Dame, my view of the coaches will not change. No one can hit 100%...
