The staff considers the CB rotation to consist of five guys to man two starting spots and the nickel. Thomas Finnie is one of the five (along with the four mentioned in the OP) and is, at least in part, being groomed for the nickel position. Here is a snippet from the Miami Herald from a couple of weeks ago:
[Coach Paul] Williams said he's trying to develop freshman Vernon Davis and sophomore Thomas Finnie at the nickel spot as well. Williams said safety Kacy Rodgers has also seen some time there.

IMHO, the nickel back position is of critical significance, and does not seem to get mentioned as often as it should.
He was never all that good to begin with IMHO. Now I may get bashed for this, but this is another example of our fans rationalizing everything. The kid is fast and he is not afraid to get physical, but I never saw anything special regarding his cover skills. It just happened that our CBs last year were so bad that he was able to make some noise. Now that we have actual good freshmen corners, he has fallen back a bit. I still think the kid is gonna contribute here, but I never expected him to be an outside corner. The idea of a nickel back makes more sense, and I think he can be used in various blitz packages.

I wouldnt go so far as to say he wasnt all that good to begin with, but I do agree in the sense that Howard and Crawford (and probably vernon davis too) are more talented guys and Finnie would not have played as much as he did as a freshman if not for the particularly gruesome corner situation last year.

blackvern,
I thought you were requesting information. Maybe I misinterpreted your OP.
Last depth chart i saw had 5 kids listed at CB, including Finnie.
