Hey guys, can anyone briefly explain what "recruiting" (at least the legal ones) involve?

I mean coaches call/text players, send mail, visit their schools, and have them visit us.

that's all they can do. so why do recruits say school A is recruiting "harder" than school B?

Well you can certainly call, text, email and visit more often or more passionately (within the rules). For example, I believe it's Saban that will send hand written letters through the mail daily to the kids he really wants.

If you want a good idea on how recruiting works though, check out this book: http://www.amazon.com/Meat-Market-S...F8&qid=1352308434&sr=8-1&keywords=meat+market

Written by a Cane alumnus, it is a great read.

Recruiting "hard" involves greater communication from a greater number of staff, plus initiatives like visiting the recruit's high school (see: Bielema-Collins). It's all related to time and effort - show these things and the recruit feels wanted and knows the staff thinks highly of him.

it comes down to contact. How often a coach stays in contact with a recruit. (that's the short version)

Think about it like you're going after a girl. If you're kind of interested, you might call/txt/say hi every once in a while. If you're VERY interested, you're walking her to calss, carrying her books, know her schedule at the gym, and her job, call and txt all the time, and are always around.

Now, substitute Football Players for girls.

Make sense?

And these coaches aren't stalking them? We've all heard the wild stories of kids changing their numbers and somehow members from staffs somehow discover them, all the shadiness going on behind the scenes
