What do you want Golden to say?

Coach D is clueless? I have no faith in him? How do you know behind closed doors he hasn't told him he's on the hotseat? How do you know behind closed doors, where this should be, he isn't furious? If Golden threw Coach D under the bus now, what assistant would want to come coach on his staff? There are right and wrong ways to handle situations, and publicly blasting your assistants is not the right thing to do.

Now if this continues, and D gets a free pass, Golden is in trouble, but he's not dumb, and I doubt he'd ride to his grave with Coach D if it came to that down the line.

If he is unhappy with the play calling on defense why don't you think he would do something about it during the game. I'm sure all of you see him wearing a headset. He can make coach d change his play calling and make adjustments during game time.

Also, a point most of you are missing is the fact that coach D is also the assistant head coach. Golden gave him that title for a reason so he is going to have a longer leash than you may think. Coach D isn't going anywhere until, at the earliest, the end of next year if we still suck on defense.

I'm one of those armchair coaches, I will admit, but what I want is not to have instability or another coaching carousel. I just want us to not be 118th in D. INTERNALLY is the way we all want it done, but It HAS TO be done. Young or not, with our talent you CANNOT tell me our D is worse than these teams:


Eastern Michigan
Rice
Wyoming
UNLV
Marshall
Army
Cent. Michigan

The list goes on. At what point does AG go to his DC and be like "Change it up and change it up NOW because this is NOT working and it's year 2!" If the majority mantra is wait until year 3, fine i'll stay in my lane and wait, but being noted as having not as much talent as those previously mentioned teams is just UNACCPETABLE.

Because this is Goldens defense as well. It's what they ran together at Temple, it's what they believe will work in the future. Golden is obviously willing to take the lumps now to improve the team for the future, hence playin so many guys on D.

If you guys are looking for major system changes before the end of the year I highly doubt you will see them.

Nice spin. I never said that. I said posters blasting him for not blasting Coach D.

There are plenty of reasons for or against. Something tells me they are going to keep building that foundation and help the players get it as opposed to switching everything and hoping the players magically get the new system

Yeah, we all pretty much gather this. I really don't want a new system. I just want them to change it up within the realm of the current system. Would it totally be out of the system if we blitzed a lot more? Sure blitzing won't help if the back line cant make open field tackles or take correct pursuit angles, but it just seems that we are playing not to make the highlight reel on ESPN. We are getting torched either way. I guess as an armchair coach, I'd rather gamble if this is the case.

The problem is that in one sentence he's saying "there are no excuses" and "I have to fix it."

Then a few moments later he starts rattling off excuse after excuse after the excuse machine has been cranked up to full power.

Catch 22 - you never throw your kids under bus (particularly young guys), you don't make excuses, and let the fans know the buck stops with you. That's the conventional response a great leader needs to understand.

Some fans would feel better if he just came out and apologized for the embarassing defensive product, but you won't see that from a class act like Golden. It's about building the kids self confidence and teaching them how to overcome adversity. This is why you want your kid playing for a leader like this. His actions speak volumes about how much he cares for these kids.
