What did we learn from the first 12 team CFP?

First time ever I didn’t watch the championship, and the way things are going in college football i think ill be watching less next season.
They thought NIL would fix it, I knew better (in terms of recruiting)

Did not watch the natty as well and getting disinterested each year. Same thing happened to me with the nfl

I’m really torn. I love college football. I don’t watch the nfl.

I’m fine with some money. I like the playoff idea as every other level has it.

But as usual the NCAA had no plan. For any of it. So my hope is they figure some things out asap and NIL starts to level out (which I think it will in time…millionaires aren’t rich by not having a return).

I really enjoyed the playoff. The first round was a bunch of blowouts but the rest was a lot of great football. I found it weird that all the teams with byes lost but I think that’s more of a freak occurrence than an omen.

I LOVED not seeing Alabama or Georgia playing in the final four. Ohio State was the most talented squad but they weren’t this unstoppable juggernaut like we had in the past. The national champion lost three games this year. The runner up lost to Northern Illinois. College football is so much better when it’s not just a contest between Alabama and Georgia.

NIL and all the associated tangents are stripping away so much of what made CFB great. The greed by the schools, the conferences, the coaches, the players, their agents, their families, their handlers, the university admins, ESPN/ABC and anyone else I forgot to list is such a turn off. There's this underlying assumption by those folks that CFB fans will A) continue to have fans no matter what and B) the funding for all this will continue to grow. What they're missing is exactly what several other posters on this thread have already mentioned - a growing disinterest.

Conference realignment, stacking odds for $EC and B1G conferences, is resulting in rivaly games (something that made CFB awesome) starting to disintegrate. More than that though is this identity crisis for lack of a better term that these "teams" are now going through, at least from the fans' perspectives. What I mean is that it's become increasingly more difficult to get excited about your team because you don't even know who will be on it the following fall. It took me about 3-4 games this year before I knew all the players numbers and names. I used to know that shít by the end of the first game because there were usually only a couple newer guys in the rotation. Not now. Then you also get to experience the loss of players you grow to like/love as they portal out (ahem, Isaiah Horton). And because there is no CBA, it's way worse than the NFL in this regard

Can this all succeed long term? Maybe, maybe not. Can fans adjust to the loss of old rivalries and the creation of new ones? Probably, but it's not the same and the sad truth is that I too feel myself pulling away from CFB more and more each season. I hope some new and improved governing body steps up and replaces the NCAA. There's something special and fun about high fiving total strangers and friends alike at a game when the Canes score.

You better have depth on the squad because you team will get beat to **** going through the playoffs.
Excellent point..........and you need depth on the bench during the game.
ND shot their wad in the first quarter while OSU played their 2 and 3 strings then brought their starters in the 3 and 4 th to close out the game.........no depth, and teams will fade like a wilting flower......

Nothing of substance, really. The big boys still remain the big boys, the order is just a bit more mixed up as of now.

Teams with bigger quality in depth will be at the top, which will be the ones with the most money, which isn't any different to the stuff we had in the past.

It was extended to 12 teams and the question still was "Why isn't X in, but Y is?"

Nothing really changed. It's the same conversations as we used to have, the product just got inflated to make more money.

Once teams figure out how to set up squads in terms of depth over the course of the season and rotate accordingly, it'll be the colleges with the biggest coaching staffs and the most resources winning - which is the status quo already.

FWIW, I didn't watch a single game, just the highlights. Couldn't be bothered to watch a single game after Miami's last game.
