What about OC candidates?

It's a forgone conclusion that Guidry is gone and will be replaced. But what about OC? I would have to imagine that Shannon Dawson will get a HC offer and would most likely take it. He has already been linked to several openings and is a nominee for the Broyles award.

When Mario took this job, he was telling people internally that he believed this to be a 4 to 5 year rebuild. Cam accelerated that timeline. Y4 was suppose to be the year to really turn the corner and sustain winning at a high level. But going into Y4, Mario will be replacing both coordinators, with the starting QB currently not on the roster and is facing an entire defensive roster reboot.

Mario has his work cut out for him this off season.

I think its more likely Dawson leaves to be a oc somewhere else than it is he gets a head coaching job. Having the number one offense in college doesn't translate to being a Top coaching candidate like it does in the NFL. Plenty of oc's in college have had top 5 offenses and not gotten any gead coaching offers. All you have to do is look at last year

The WSU OC so we can increase chance of getting Mateer. Some on here say Mateer will follow his OC.

Another plus is it seems like the OC is really good at finding underrated QB talent.

I don’t see Dawson leaving this year unless he realizes who he really is and takes a mid-major HC position.
I think it’s 50/50 we fire Guidry. Could see Mario retain Guidry and get rid of a couple position coaches instead.

btw, where does Ryan Day go when he’s fired?
Does he get another P2 HC job? Does he humble himself to take a lower level P4 HC job?
Or does he rebuild himself as OC at high profile place?

Crappy coach, but he did good as OC.

If Mario learned ANYTHING from Saban, I hope its that he creates a safe haven for recently fired coaches to rebuild their resumes.
 
Is it really a forgone conclusion Guidry is gone ? I hope so but gotta see it. And MC's hiring process is notoriously slow which we can't really afford right now. Dawson is ok, nothing special, but we're better served keeping continuity on offense right now while with defense Guidry and some assistants gotta go. Rip the band aid off now, make the new hires by Xmas and then let's go to work.

Dawson and Mario did enough to make cam a top 5 pick. All our te’s, rb’s and wr’s improved. I’m not to concerned about offense.

this is an elite idea. Goes nicely with what I said earlier about Cristobal needing to be end of career Bobby Bowden to be successful. Jimbo Fisher was the real HC. Mullen would play the Fisher role, it’s his team. Let him game plan and set up and run practice. Cristobal leads recruiting efforts. Legit good paring that lets both do what they do well.
