And I thought some guys on the football team was stealing checks this season…what an absolute heist that’s going on with these basketball players and lack of production

Someone here said we lost Omier due to lack of $$.

There are only a handful of hoops players compared to the numbers you need to win in football. You'd think any school would have enough money to make basketball a going concern.

We don’t get much in terms of small dollar donations to NIL for basketball. That really needs to change for us to be compete long term.

The school had ~25 mil NIL fund for this year and ~80-85% went to football.

Men’s basketball had about a 3 mil NIL budget for this year.

Omier wanted 7 figures to stay. Not enough to go around paying 1 guy 1mm+ with a 3 mil total fund for the entire team.

For context 100 families donating 20k each year to basketball NIL is only a 2mil/yr budget.

Right now Mas and Kadre and a few others are keeping us afloat… but it’s a lot of money every single year.

Thanks. IMO, there will come a day in the future when Miami will be a "basketball school."

That will be driven by lack of the resources required to keep pace with the better-funded collectives and other revenue streams that massive state universities have; and, our getting our wish to move up in class by joining either the B1G or SEC (where we will have a far tougher time remaining relevant in football).

Only reason I would disagree is that UHealth has freed up the university to encourage donors to fund the collective rather than donate to the university/AD. Thats why we had a top 5 football NIL fund this year, and I (fingers crossed) don’t see that changing.

We were so close to getting over the hump in basketball after the final 4, but we need sustained success to keep fans on the wagon and build a broader base of support which generates volume small dollar NIL contributions which we need to supplement the small group of bigger donors.

where would it rank compared to the other basketball programs?

A top 5 NIL with the amount of warts on this team?

Thats embarrassing how much money is being paid out. Cam Ward deserves every penny, but where’s the All-Americans on this team?

If my nephew’s NIL deal is evidence of the condition of our NIL program then the only conclusion to draw is that we are in good financial shape to be very competitive. @AmherstCane’s assessment is accurate.

But our evals have to be correct. We aren’t the Yankees or Dodgers, so we have to be correct. We can’t absorb as many misses.
Think of us like the Atlanta Braves.
