So Miami was up 21-0, and then got out-scored 42-17. There was nothing fluky about it.

Just having an average defense and you win this game. This defense has shown leaks since the Vatech game in late September -- and quite frankly, never got better. In fact, it got worse as the season wore on. At what point does Lance Guidry face some heat? (and yeah, Miami needs to recruit some better players on that side of the ball, too. lets be honest)

And the harsh reality is that Miami now has to face life without Cam Ward and many other key parts. Some tough question have to be asked, starting now.

I really think Cristobal has to look at his defensive staff. But not making the playoffs in a 12-team format is a failure for Mario Cristobal. There is no sugar coating this reality. It could've been a great year for UM football. Now, it's not. That may sound harsh, but that's the truth.

Back in 1998, as Miami's defense fell apart late (giving up a bunch of points vs Syracuse, UCLA and then NCState), Butch Davis made the decision to relieve Bill Miller of his DC duties, and brought in Greg Schiano.

Will history repeat itself here? It wasn't just that the defense wasn't good. The bigger issue to me was that certain structural issues never really got fixed..

Mario cant hire a DC? He has missed both times after 1000 interviews of his strenuous process.. Find one of them Baltimore/Michigan wizards the Harbaughs have stashed and let them cook, this **** is not it.. Confused all season and the flats STILL OPEN

And I cant blame Guidry only because his smug smile at pressers made it seem like he was like guys I need some portal Safeties and they were like nah we got #7, you good breh.. let him cook.

If we want to win, we better make changes. I get it, the talent isn't great on D- the DB's were awful all year and frankly other than Frederique (who finally looked like a freshman today) we won't lose anything if anyone goes to the portal or graduates. The LB are OK, but Mauigoa disappointed most of the year and Bissainthe is either very good or very bad, all the time. The DL was incredibly overrated, outside of Bain who wore down having to play 60 snaps a game (and he may have outgrown DE). But these highly touted recruits never contributed. We looked like we were hanging on by a thread way too often, and just lost 3-4 plays per drive. Is it Guidry, several assistants, or all of the above? Mario will earn his pay this offseason figuring that out, as well as finding the next Cam.

Basic fundamentals of defense. Being in the right position, not blowing assignments, tackling etc.

alignment pre-snap, and then giving up the edge waaay too many times(which a good defense never does). They also do a poor job of leveraging the ball back inside, and really poor communicating on the back end of the defense

But outside of that -- to paraphrase that line for Gung Ho -- the defense runs great!!

Only heard Bain's name once today...and that was on an offside on Cuse's first drive

Need a better tactician at DC and a MUCH BETTER recruiter of corners and safeties. It's not just Guidry. Jackson has to go too. It's non-negotiable.

Don’t agree. Guidry smug like he was above all this and above the reporters who asked questions. Fact is, he explained his approach to film and in-game adjustments earlier this year. And it wasn’t good.

We gave him a raise last year because the defense showed some life/energy. But what Mario didnt realize was that “improvement” was based on an EXTREMELY low bar set by previous staff and players. We extrapolated that and went proactive to keep him here because we “thought” LSU might come after him.

We played this game as if Syracuse was going to play the same they did against Pitt. We had AM out in the flats/coverage and he had 2 G5 players quarterback the defense (Kiko and Jaden).

He’s got to go.

Not a single player of the back 7 have a clue how to get aligned or help others be in the right space. It’s truly mind bogling.

I had the sound turned off the broadcast for most of the second half .They were so annoying. I DID catch their whole demonstration of how poorly Miami was aligned after the last Syracuse rb touchdown.
It was embarrassing.

Not trying to flame however we cant say "back seven" - that D line is really bad - alot of $ was spent with very little production
