2016 Booker T Washington (Fla.) running back Mark Walton was planning to announce his college decision on his birthday: March 29th, but it seems as if he couldn’t wait any longer and decided to commit to his hometown Miami Hurricanes today.
“Because of my love for Miami and the opportunity is here. They’re doing great things now, so why wait if you know where you want to be at,” said Walton.
Walton described how he went about his commitment and says he had the whole Hurricane staff jumping around.
“I called coach Micheal Barrow and told him I wanted to speak to coach Golden and his reaction was he heard it the first time and then he told me to say it again. I guess he wanted the coaches to hear it and they started screaming out ‘Big Mark!’.”
The 2016 running back is the second Miami commitment of his class (Chauncey Gardner) and also joins three other Booker T. Washington football players who are committed to Miami.
“That’s part of the reason I committed. I wanted to be apart of it with those guys. Why not just continue playing with those guys at the next level?”
As far as a level of commitment, the Booker T Washington product is pretty clear.
“I am a hundred percent committed to Miami.”
When asked for a message for the Hurricane fan base, Walton stressed how much he can’t wait to suit up in the orange and green.
“I’m just ready to get into the two doors at the University of Miami. If it was up to me, I would start playing at the University tomorrow, but it’s a process so I’m just ready to walk through the doors and be officially apart of the University of Miami.”
