With his move to fullback, I went back to look at how FSU used Lonnie Pryor, who I feel is very similar in skill set to Tucker. I think both guys have average RB skills with a FB mentality, when combined gives an effect weapon out of the backfield. Look at Pryor's senior season highlights and you can see some play action plays that would be great playing of of the threat of Duke Johnson. Tucker is used similar to Pryor in his HS highlights, he definitely doesn't mind contact. Red shirt him this year and I think he can start next year and contribute. Pryor in his career was good for 4-5 carries a game and 1-2 receptions. That should be the target IMO, with the pass plays coming at key times for maximum effect (think Najeh and DJ Williams). I think Tucker will be a more effective weapon than Hagens, maybe similar to Quadtrine Hill. It makes things so much more difficult for the defense when the 5th option on offense is athletic enough to make you pay for cheating away from him. Tucker averaged 9.5 yards a carry for American Heritage his senior year. Sony averaged 9.9 on 90 more carries.

I go with Walter Tucker as the next DJ Williams blowing up Gator Defenders in the 2000 Sugar Bowl.

Relevant due to Coley being the OC; thanks for posting.

yeah it's relevant.... Lonnie Pryor brought a different dynamic to their back field.

Walter Tucker is going to need time before I believe he can have that same type of impact.

I thought about comparing to Davenport, but IMO its not a realistic comparison. Davenport was a stud RB that hurt himself and then was selfless enough to move to FB when a lot of other guys would have transferred for playing time. He did play the tailback position in the NFL for a few years. Pryor, Tucker and Havili don't have the kind of skill set Najeh had. Good luck recruiting a stud RB and then convincing him to block most of the time. Guys like Najeh and Alonzo Highsmith were generational talents at the position and had a perfect storm of circumstances and personalities to excel there. Guys like them either end up at the tailback spot or are turned into linebackers (DJ Williams). Normally too talented to end up as the 4th or 5th option on offense.

Tucker's not nearly the runner Pryor is...much less any of the other guys you mention. His film is pretty poor, he's just not a natural runner. That said, he's not afraid of contact and obviously has enough speed to be dangerous if he gets a step. Best case I think he's a solid backup that tears it up on special teams.

Over 9 yards per carry suggests his "film" isn't that poor.

The dude is a freshman, recently enrolled, and just switched positions. Let's slow down on his impact on the team outside of STs.

I think the coaches will give him a shot to perform at RB and LB. If he can't crack the top 4 RB's or 2 deep at LB, you betcho *** FB will be the next spot for him. Golden has done a good job of recruiting team players, so if this kid has a problem with the transition, I think we will find out pretty quick. You never know, dude could go berzerk in the weight room and be Mo's successor. Regardless, great athlete, find him a spot to excel.

That's a nice number, but have you seen the film? Watch it and you'll see pretty quickly he's just not an instictive runner.
