Just an FYI, I listened to ginos press conference and he said that Garland will not be starting a game during weekend. So that leaves Federman and McFarlane right?

Yikes to smith. Don’t know what is up with him but he’s looked flat out awful. Is the acc that much better than pac 12?

give me dubberly over smith and Federman. Not sure if I choose him over mcfarlane though

I agree on Smith, especially not as a starter even if only for a couple of innings. He hasn't earned it yet and has shown little ability to control the strike zone, spot his fastball, etc.

I agree and think it would show some innovation on Gino's part. With COVID expanded rosters and fewer games, why not try it? And it has the added benefit of getting more guys PT, valuable experience and feeling better about being a contributor. The Rays have sure used it to some considerable success.
 
TL;DR Gino on Palmquist starting: We’ve thought about it, but no.

I’m still pretty underwhelmed by McFarlane too, but look forward to being proven wrong if he gets the nod. I’d probably pick Dubberly as an opener and figure things out from the 4th/5th on.

I didn’t know Dubberly was coming off arm surgery. I’ll happily take a poor man’s BVB if that’s what he develops into.
 
Can't be Federman but a move to the pen could restore his game. Let Dubberly go Sunday and if that doesn't work then audition McFarlane or Smith the next weekend.

I'm good with Dubberly or McFarlane (not loving his control issues tho) even Smith although he hasn't been a good as I expected...really wish they would give Palmquist a chance

I would give him a midweek start and see how he handles it. Maybe the light comes on for him when it’s his game. We just have to develop another starter. That of course means Garland to Sunday.
 
The Kayfus/Pitelli experiment can be over as far as I'm concerned. Solid defenders and I'm sure they'll be good here but Toral and Gil are big boppers. Sure they're fat and strike out a lot but they'll drive in some runs.
