Didn't notice until today, but UNC opened up its season versus Florida A&M this past weekend. The topline score doesn't tell the full story. For a supposed ACC Coastal Contender, UNC massively underperformed against a team with less talent, size, and resources. Some key facts from this game:
*EDIT: per a few posters below, FAMU was down 20+ players, which included 4 starters.*
- The spread was -44.5 UNC. Ultimately, UNC wasn't close to covering and won 56-24.
- Going into the 4th, UNC was only up 35-24. A less than two-possession game against FAMU.
- FAMU ended up putting up 335 yards of offense. 279 of those yards were in the air. Granted, UNC put up almost double that amount, but it's striking that their secondary got torched by an FCS School.
- Time of possession between UNC and FAMU was a 31/29 split. Surprised to see that FAMU was able to sustain so many drives.
- FAMU was 5/13 on 3rd Down, but 2/2 on 4th. Overall, FAMU was able to get 20 1st downs in this game.
- FAMU was 28/39 in the air, completing 72% of its passes and averaging 7.2 yards per pass.
- UNC was 29/38 in the air, completed 7.7 yds per pass, and completed 77% of its passes. UNC also had 314 yards on the ground, averaged 7.9 yds per carry on 40 attempts, and held FAMU to 56 yds on 27 attempts.
