Miami Athletics Earns High Marks on Latest NCAA APR Report
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami athletic department earned an Academic Progress Rate score of 987 in the NCAA’s latest APR report, an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally. The NCAA released APR data for all Division I institutions Tuesday after a one-year hiatus.Nine UM programs achieved APR perfect scores of 1,000 for the 2020-21 academic year – men’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s diving, golf, soccer, women’s swimming and diving, women’s tennis and volleyball. In addition, Miami’s football program posted a 997, its best single-year score in history.
Four programs – men’s cross country, men’s diving, women’s cross country and golf – achieved perfect multi-year scores of 1,000, placing them in the 90-100th percentile nationally. The multi-year scores are based the 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years.
“I am extremely proud of our student-athletes and the exceptional work they do in the classroom,” Vice President/Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said. “I also want to thank our coaches and academic services staff for their continued dedication to our academic mission.”
The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.
