CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football program announced Sunday that it has accepted a bid to the 2019 Walk-On's Independence Bowl and will take on Louisiana Tech at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La.

The game will be aired live on Dec. 26 at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN, 560 WQAM and Unanimo Deportes.

"We are looking forward to the opportunity to participate in the Walk-On's Independence Bowl," Director of Athletics Blake James said. "The bowl's staff and the people of Shreveport always put on a terrific show for the visiting teams and this promises to be a fun experience for both our student-athletes and our fan base."

Miami's appearance in the 2019 Walk-On's Independence Bowl marks the 43rd time in school history the Hurricanes have competed in a bowl game and seventh straight year in which the Hurricanes will compete in a postseason game; Miami owns a 20-22 overall record in 42 previous bowl games.

Miami's matchup with Louisiana Tech (9-3, 6-2 C-USA) represents the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools and the first head-to-head contest since 2004; UM carries a perfect 4-0 all-time record into the game.

The Hurricanes' appearance in the Independence Bowl is the second in program history; Miami lost, 24-21, to South Carolina in the 2014 Independence Bowl.

The Hurricanes (6-6, 4-4 ACC) saw their last bowl win come in the 2016 Russell Athletic Bowl over West Virginia, 31-14, on Dec. 28, 2016.

"We're looking forward to facing Louisiana Tech in the Walk-On's Independence Bowl," head coach Manny Diaz said. "We are working hard to finish strong with this recruiting class before turning our full attention to securing a victory for this team."

I wonder if Diaz will have the players practice only FIVE TIMES akin to what Coach Richt did in each bowl game. Ouch. And dig this too. Diaz totally KNOWS he won't be fired next season no matter what happens in the bowl game and if Miami finishes 6-6, again, next season. And believe it or not, Miami's schedule is extremely DIFFICULT next season. Because EVERY conference opponent brings back the majority of their starters. Yikes. And of course, FSU now has Coach Norvell doing the Seminole war dance prior to their annual rivalry game against Miami!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OUCH!
