You're missing Deon Jones from DC
Dont think miami is really in it for him.
I think you're wrong, that's from 247
Jones (6-1, 180) may be considered elite at his position by most but he has convinced himself that it's not enough now and it probably won't be in the near future.
"I still work with a chip on my shoulder because I don't have that fifth star," Jones said. "I know there are some other good corners out there but I don't want the focus to get away from my game. I'm grinding like I have no stars as a matter of fact. Rankings don't matter on the field but they do help get your name out there."
Jones has ten ACC offers, six in the Big10, six in the SEC, three in the Big 12, and 3 in the Pac-12. He lists a couple standouts but nobody is eliminated from contention.
"A lot of schools are hitting me up all the time but I have two really high," Jones said. "Of course Maryland is my home team so I can go up there to talk with the coaches whenever I want. Clemson was my first offer and we had that connection ever since my freshman year. I'm going to Virginia's junior day on Saturday though and I'll visit the Florida schools this summer."
Jones visited Maryland five times, Clemson three times, and Virginia Tech twice. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, and North Carolina have all hosted him once.
Miami's old staff offered Jones way back in April but it took a regime change to get both parties back on the same page again.
"I knew I got an official offer from them but I really wasn't in contact with the coaches," Jones said. "My coach talked to somebody down there but that's all I knew about. I'm for sure getting more letters at the house and interest from the new coaches so that's good. They all followed me on Twitter and sent invitations to their camps."
Jones discussed what has kept the Hurricanes in the running and how they could improve their chances moving forward in his recruitment.
"I'm confident I could compete for a starting spot as a freshman because they're in the process of rebuilding things down there," Jones said. "They could move up when I go for a visit and get a feel for the campus. Having a good season could play a part too but that's not as big as becoming comfortable with the coaches."
Like so many of his peers, Jones is in the process of evaluation his options. He touched on how he goes about separating one team from another.
"Playing time is definitely one of my top priorities and how the coaches vibe with the players," Jones said. "I'm looking for a family atmosphere and a good education too. I just want to feel at home but that could be anywhere. The staff is what makes that part, not the location or distance."
