UCF’s Scott Frost (2.0) hires Dorito

I was pointing out how odd it is that he REFUSED to cut ties with D’Onofrio when he was at Miami but as soon as he left, his bff has been nowhere near him.
I hear you and I was just pointing out that he probably realized at some point what a worthless colostomy bag Donofrio was and cut him off. It's all good.

This is just my opinion, and it might be totally wrong, but Golden refused to cut ties with D'Onofrio because D'Onofrio was running AL GOLDEN's defensive philosophy and scheme while here at UM. D'Onofrio didn't have much of a say.

I truly believe Golden thought his defensive philosophy would work here at UM, so he brought along his buddy to run it. Golden ran a similar defense when he was d-coordinator at UVA and had some success. When Golden was hired at HC at Temple, he then hired D'Onofrio to be the d-coordinator. They also had some success there. Of course, Temple had dropped down a division and was playing weak competition. So, when the defense failed year after year at UM, Golden really didn't want to fire the guy that was running HIS defense, who also happened to be his buddy. Golden was convinced his defense was going to eventually work and was too stubborn to change. He surely wasn't going to bring in anybody else that was going to run a completely different defensive philosophy.

Now, I am not defending D'Onofrio. He as a horrible person and terrible coach, but no coach was going to have success running that style of defense. Maybe in the late 90's and early 2000's, that defense still was adequate, but not after 2010 when majority of offenses really started adapting and advancing and getting away from the old Pro style I formation.

I think Golden had to come to terms once he was fired. He had to make adjustments and changes, which he apparently has. Golden seems to be a lot more likeable and personable than D'Onofrio, who has the personality of a rock. D'Onofrio is like Enos, Randy Shannon, Matt Patricia, ect...limited knowledge, but acts like a jerk and thinks he's better than everybody. Just a very unpleasant person. I'm sure Golden realizes this and knows not to associate with D'Onofrio, at least in the coaching world (not personal life).

That picture w him and Hurlie Brown is so g_ddamned funny if anyone remembers the classic recruiting disagreement between the two of them caught on video and bizzarely published by the UM athletic dep't:

There's few guys with as **** poor of a track record as Mark D'Nofrio. He was coaching Boys & Girls club ball in Kendall the year after he was fired here.

Who's defense was Donofrio running at Houston? I get what you are saying but I don't think it's that simple.

Hope Harris develops would be a nice future option since he’s following the path you need to for a strong career as a coach. He has Antoine Jackson right? Or did he leave again

Hes a good dude i see him being an option for us down the road.

Ice son got coaching in his veins and is personable.

Now on No D...dont know how he will work out. Lol

It was all Al Grohs defense so technically your right.

But it only worked for groh wben he had a wad of talent. That defense was alrwady beinf exposed in the acc before golden brought it here lol

What a terrible hire. Incredible, though, that after this year whenever someone asks the question “Who was the worst DC in Miami History?” The answer will unequivocally be “Lance Guidry”.

Amazing how some ****e coaches continue to get hired over and over and over...

and President's too.

Weird.

I don't know who's defense he was running at Houston. Probably his from what he ran when he was at Miami. Only thing he knew, because he's awful and unable to adapt.

Houston finished 30 in overall team defense in 2016. No D was hired in 2017. They finished 42 in his first year, so a little worse than the previous year. In 2018 Houston finished 119 in team defense. Huge drop off from his first year and he was let go, rightfully so. So yeah, he sucks and has a terrible track record.

I'm just saying that he was running Golden's defense while at UM and was made the scape goat. I don't think it would have mattered anyway even if he was running something different. He's a terrible coach. Both Golden and D'Onofrio deserve equal blame for the Miami's defensive failures. Golden for his defensive philosophy/scheme and D'Onofrio for being the wrong guy to run it.
