Two Safeties We Should Prioritize

In the last couple of years I have never seen a class that has been set up in our favor like the 2018 class. We need to capitalize and go after both Camron Davis and DeMarcus Townsend, thus far, I think they may be the best backs in Florida and nationally in their class, this is what evaluation is all about. I constantly say in certain classes we should take advantage of and load up on particular positions. The 2018 DB class may be the best I have seen in awhile. There is no reason why we should make recruiting hard for us and take less than four dbs/S. IMO I would love to see us take 4 corners (Blades, Campbell, Samuel, and Burns or Allen from Ga) and 3 safeties. I actually like Jobe at safety, we should definitely use him like FSU used Ramsey. I also like Frierson at free safety. Safety is a critical position, there are two safeties, one from 2017 and the other from 2018 I think we should prioritize.

CJ Smith Oxbridge Academy West Palm Beach, FL 2018 6'3 190 C.J. Smith Sophomore Highlights 2015 - C.J. Smith highlights - Hudl

The talk may be centered around Tyreke Johnson (who we should go after as well, doubt he goes to FSU after his brother's incident) for the best safety prospect in the 2018 class, but CJ has everything you want in a safety. He currently has legit offers from Alabama, Florida Atlantic, Tennessee, LSU, Nebraska, Michigan, and West Virginia. Kid is a true ballhawk, he seems to always be in the right place at the right time, I seen his name pop up maybe once on here but never took time to watch his highlights until recently. This class should be fun to follow the progress of the athletes.

Garrett Wallow John Curtis River Ridge, LA 2017 6'3 200
2015 Final Junior Highlights - Garret Wallow highlights - Hudl

Wallow is one of the most underrated players in the 2017 class. Wallow reacts to the ball fast and plays great in space and through contact. He can play either strong in the box or free safety. Currently, according to 247sports, his biggest offers are Cincy, UK, Arkansas, Ball State, and Colorado State. Not too sure how legit his Michigan offer is. Recently, the strategy for programs like Duke has been recruiting kids like Wallow that a lot of the schools are not after hard. If I was Richt, no way I would have let Duke land Dylan Singleton last year but Duke was constant with him. I hope we at least give Wallow a shot, kid is the goods.

Finch do you mean Cajun "CJ" Smith? I talked to one of my buddies who went to the scrimmages and he said Smith really stood out.

Also. On the discussion on safeties, one of my other favorites and I expect a Miami offer to come for him(Jon Richt asked for his transcripts, coaches do that before they offer)from 2018. Dominick Watt from McArthur, two way athlete. He loves Miami. Been told he will commit to whoever offers first between Miami & FSU. Good receiver but ability to be a great safety.

Trenell Troutman from Pace(used to be at Northwestern) & Randy Russell from Carol City are two others to look out for at safety in 2018.

2018 is just ridiculous at DB. & I would prefer DJ Ivey over Thomas Burns. DJ Ivey the real deal. Burns has a lot to prove, he's behind the 8 ball right now in regards to where he stands in the quality of 2018 DBs within the state.

More future safeties to keep an eye on.

2019 Keontra Smith - Chaminade-Madonna
2019 Kenny McIntosh - University School (Current cane RJ McIntosh younger brother)
2020 Nicholas Graham - Southwest
2020 Avantae Williams - Orange City University

All 4 are the real deal. Kenny plays both sides of the ball but his upside is higher at safety.

Avantae already holds an offer from UF, he grew up a big time fan of Miami. He's very close with 2018 Canes RB target Lorenzo Lingard. I first heard about him at The Football Hotbed National Middle School Show Case which was hosted at The U and I believe Cardinal Gibbons, two weeks ago.

My boys little brother Amin Hassan WR from Gulliver Prep for class of 2020 was at the event, he just got two offers this week from Bowling Green & West Virginia.(Keep an eye on him as well. Gulliver brought him up to varsity as an 8th grader last year). Him & Avantae were going at it the whole event.

Gerry Hamilton from ESPN pointed it out today, but I'll mention it.

Oxbridge has 4 DBs going D1. 2017 DBs, Traivon Leonard & Darnell "DJ" Robinson. & 2018 DBs CJ Smith and Keidron Smith

Impressive. Not including some other prospects like 2017 DE Jonathan Garvin, 2017 OL Robert Holmes, 2017 LB Willie Hampton, 2018 ATH Herman McCray & 2020 WR Jordan Cash(One of the top little league WRs coming into High School, was shocked he didn't stay in Broward. Played for FT. Lauderdale Hurricanes last year)

Yes, typo on my part, this class is stacked. It will be interesting to see what we do with Burns, IMO, out of respect we should keep him in the fold, he also possesses elite speed as well. I thought Watt would prefer to play on the O side of the ball, either way he is dominant. I have been hearing a lot about Ivey and I'm starting to warm up to him. Geo, how many would you take a DB and S in this class?

2018 is lookin like a biiiig year for us to bring in some DB's. Jobe, Frierson, Blades, good chance with Samuel. Others still in play but big potential to be one of the best DB classes we have had in a long time, and very much needed too.

I like wallow alot FINCH i can see him playing LB too. I like the way he form tackles its like he knows soon as he makes violent contact to wrap his arms around the target and fall.

I know you have plenty of prospects to talk about from the Boot. The ones we dont know about but should get to know. I Was wondering where you and 01canes been hiding with prospects we wouldnt find on the copy & paste sites or from the work lol

Good post

Ok I'm officially overwhelmed by 2017-2020 CB/S recruits. I thought Frierson, Wright and Jobe were as good as it gets at S/SS, but you cats telling me there are more from SoFl each of the next 3 years? This staff has got to be laughing about all the DB talent a short drive away.

There's a bunch of guys in central/north FL as well

You already know where i am with him...He's a cane when they offer.

We talking about 2020 kids already? I really think it depends on who we get this year and if the safeties look good from the 16" class. I really only see 2 top safeties come and 2 top corners come in 2018. We need 4 corners for this 17" class and all will play in 17". The top kids will want starting spots assured as Freshman. We all know that. If we get 2 top CB's and 2 top safeties that will be impressive. The others will be low 4 star 3 star projects.
