Miami has their kicker for the 2021 class and it’s a good one.
Top-ranked kicker in the country (according to Kornblue Kicking) Andres Borregales committed to the Canes today, bringing some excitement to the Miami coaching staff.
“It was a very exciting moment, I couldn’t stop smiling,” Borregales said of the big moment. “When I told coach (Manny) Diaz that I was going to commit, he was shocked at first, but he was very excited.”
Borregales was on campus for UM’s specialist camp that was held today and that’s when he informed the staff he wanted to be a Hurricane. However, Borregales has been mulling over whether to commit for a while now after receiving his offer in early May.
“I talked about committing with my parents and they both agreed,” Borregales said. “Like I’ve said before, Miami is my dream school.”
Borregales recently announced he would transfer to Chaminade-Madonna for his upcoming junior season, but he played 2018 with Booker T. Washington, where he was named first team All-Dade for his performance. His time with the Tornadoes allowed him to get to know some of his future Miami classmates in 2021.
“I’ve played with Donell Harris and Anthony Hundley and I’ve talked with Kahlil Brantley and Romello Brinson in the past,” Borregales said. “The class of 2021 is stacked in my opinion.”
As a sophomore, Borregales went 7/9 in FG’s, longest being 47, as well as going 33/47 in touchbacks. However, he has much loftier expectations for his time at Miami.
“My personal goals for right now are to break all the kicker records at Miami, but as far as team goals, it’s to win that national championship,” Borregales said.
And his message to Canes fans out there that have followed his recruitment?
“Big things coming in the future.”
