If we're going strictly off high school achievements there is no player in Broward County HS history with the resume of Brandon Knight (Pine Crest c/o 2010).

-Twice named Gatorade National Player of the Year
-Two time Mr. Florida.
-McDonald's All-American
-Parade All-American
-Gatorade HS Athlete of the Year
-Consensus Top 10 player in 2010 Class
-2 time State Champ

If we're going off overall careers (HS, college & pros), then the obvious choice is Mitch "The Rock" Richmond. Only Broward guy I can think of who topped off his career with an enshrinement in the Basketball HoF.

Eddie Jones would be my #2 if we're including the post HS careers. Eddie had a stellar HS career, but it was at the collegiate and professional level where he really flourished.

Scotty Barnes' is a guy who is currently playing and if he stays healthy he might have a shot of surpassing Richmond one day.

Next wave of Broward talent coming thru the pipes is scary talented. There are some blue blood prospects currently playing in Broward schools. Will be fun watching them develop over the next few years.

Solely based off their HS careers, in my eyes the best 5 to ever come out of the 954 are...

1. Brandon Knight, Pine Crest (Kentucky) - You can read my comments above for all his HS accolades. Best ever at the Broward HS level! Was ranked as high as top 5 nationally.
2. Kenny Boynton, American Heritage (Florida) - The most prolific scorer in Broward history. 3rd all-time leading scorer in Florida HS basketball history. Scored 61 pts in a HS game as well. If I'm not mistaken, KB was Broward's first McDonald's All-American. Consensus top 20 guy nationally.
3. Vernon Carey, Univ School (Duke) - Stellar HS career capping it with 2 state championships, City of Palms title, and Mickey D's All-American game and Jordan Classic. Also, a two-time gold medalist playing for USA's 16u & 17u squads.
4. Scottie Barnes, Univ School (FSU) - Didn't play his senior year in Broward (transferred to Montverde), but without a doubt made his name in the 954. Won 2 state titles before leaving. Finished off a great HS career by playing in the McDonald's All-American game, Jordan Classic and Nike Hoop Summit. Finished top 10 in many national player rankings his senior year.
5. Fab Melo, Sagemont (Syracuse) - Moved to America end of his sophomore year of HS. Was a consensus Top 25 player nationally and McDonald's All-American by the time it was all said and done.

Other names to consider:
Mitch Richmond, Boyd Anderson (Kansas St.)
Jimmy Tobias, Dillard (Oklahoma)
Keyon Dooling, Dillard (Missouri)
Clarence Gilbert, Dillard (Missouri)
Jermaine "6-9" Walker, Blanche Ely (Miami)
Joe McCray, Dillard (Nebraska)
TJ Sapp, Northeast (Clemson)
Eddie Jones, Blanche Ely (Temple)
Alvin Mitchell, Cardinal Gibbons (Cincinatti)
Ryan Reid, Boyd Anderson (FSU)
Reggie Cross, South Plantation (Hawaii)
RaQuan Gray, Dillard (FSU)
Malik Martin, Northeast (USC)
Balsa Koprivica, Sagemont (FSU)
Amen Thompson, Pine Crest (OTE)
Ausar Thompson, Pine Crest (OTE)

I think there is some recency bias in your top 5, I firmly agree that Brandon Knight is the top player to ever come out of Broward and that Kenny Boynton should be in the top 5. Taurean Green should be in any top 5 list and right behind Brandon Knight, what he did at Westminster and then at Cardinal Gibbons was dominant. Tough keeping off Dooling, Tobias, Gilbert, Richmond and Eddie Jones in favor of Carey and Melo.

Recency bias? LOL!!! You may be doing too much reminiscing. All jokes aside, I forgot about Taurean. All the bouncing around may have caused that. I think he played at 4 different high schools throughout his prep career. Spent two years in Broward Co. and 2 years in other parts of the state. I thought long and hard about including Keyon in the top 5 instead of Melo. A strong case can be made for both. However, those other guys I don't think quite make the cut. Although Mitch and Eddie had fantastic basketball careers after high school, there's a reason they weren't highly recruited and don't think anyone was calling them all time greats while they were playing in Browrad. They were pretty much late bloomers. Remember, Mitch played a lot off the ball in high school. Looked more like a forward than a guard. He developed his game in college with Dana Altman. For the most part, Gilbert was the 2nd best player on his high school team. So, it'd be very difficult to call him one of the top 5 players in Broward County history. When you look at their accomplishments at the high school level, I think what separates the guys in my top 5 to the guys you mention are mine had great individual and team success. All were recruited by blue blood schools. And it doesn't hurt that they were all McDonald's All-American's.

I think I’ve got to add @King of Allapattah to the group.

THOUGHT HE WAS ALREADY IN THE GROUP.

HE IS THE BBALL VERSION OF DMONEY
I just replaced Ariz with him. Ariz and Geo are not necessarily permanent. I like it with him, you, macho, D$ and Blu. I think King of Allapatah has a coaching background down there.
