Flashy name recruits are not needed for wr,def back and running back. Any running back can run through giant holes paved by the off line. Any def back can catch ints if the d line is pressuring. Not every single player in the top 4 teams are high school all Americans.

Of course it's a team game. I just observe the top teams and most (except for bama) are full of players that aren't nationally known. Like during recruiting I've never heard of kelly Bryant, Travis etienne, feaster. Jalen hurts, Ronnie Harrison etc. although highly touted these guys weren't CANT MISS players.

Each of those guys were 4star or higher

Alabama has a recruiting staff of 90 people. What this allows them to do is recruit nationally.... they can look at film of 1000's of prospects in their freshman and sophomore years, and get on kids earlier than anyone else.

I bring this up because that's what Miami needs to do. We do a great job of recruiting locally, but we're not going to find enough hogs in South Florida alone, we need to extend our reach to some other states.

We need to hire a few people whose sole job is to look at film of big uglies from high schools around the nation so that we can get on them early. We don't need to take skill positions from other states, but having guys focus just on o-linemen, tight ends, d-line, and QB would pay big dividends to our recruiting.

Totally agree I think we need to copy Fsu recruiting class from 2010 to 2014 like the Eddie Goldman, tank carradine, Mario Edwards etc.

Every position is important, but defensive line is the critical position if you want to compete for championships.

and our defensive line has one of the highest havoc rates in the country
Is #1 in sacks per game ,#2 in tfls for game. Need to keep adding dlineman

No, they're full of players not known by Miami fans because we mostly just know the SFLA kids. Turns out there are 6-7 decent guys in the rest of the US each year.

Our Dline pressures well but can't seem to stuff the run enough. We need more of the sec style Dlinemen like Tim Jernigan Eddie Goldman bosa nkemdeche etc.

Honestly I thing the lack of run stuffing is primarily a function of scheme. It seems to be something Diaz is willing to give up in exchange for wreaking constant havoc. Diaz loves to stunt, slant and twist with his front while his LBs blitz and aggressively shoot gaps.

Now when this defense is directly challenged by a traditional running team (Notre Dame) we Diaz has shown the ability and willingness to adjust accordingly and stuff the run. My personal gripe with Diaz is that I think he can overdo it and send his LBs when there is no need to. With the caliber of talent we have and are acquiring on defense the 2(Creating havoc and gap integrity vs the run) do not have to be mutually exclusive. Having said that I have been impressed for the most part with Diaz and his game plans and overall adjustments.

Also thanks to HurricaneVision I have learned that many of the run fit busts were not entirely scheme related but a result of player mistakes and overaggression. Unrelated to the OP but I would still like to see Diaz not out think himself on 3rd and long and #2 stop opening games playing soft zone as we are no good at it. It's not who we are. Look at the UVA and Clemson games. We started both games playing more passive soft zone coverages and both times the opposing QB shredded us. When we reverted back to aggressive man to man and brought pressure those two teams weren't nearly as effective moving the ball.

No we don’t, they stuffed clemson run with 40rushes for only 70 yards. They got better with run defense as the season went on

Pittsburgh game was not good. Not awful but we got pushed around in key situations, and we couldn't afford that the way Rosier was going in that game.

The Clemson stats are not fully applicable. When a team jumps out to a big early lead the stats can be all over the place. Sometimes they reflect dominance and other times the winning team ends up with strangely little yardage. When I worked in a stats office years ago the owner used to emphasize that to new employees from the opening day.

If Clemson had been asked to play a tight game for 3 quarters or more I guarantee the rushing yardage doesn't look like that. As always -- situational influence.

Don't kid yourself...Bama ain't getting kids because "they're on them before anyone else".

Some years ago,my cousin had a 6'6"son playing guard in BB in Broward Co.He was not much of a
shooter, but could stop most opponents from scoring.I also had a good friend who was HC at U of
Montana.I asked him to take a look at him in February and he replied back and said we completed
our recruiting prior Nov.We saw his tape, discussed him and move on.
My point is if a school 2000 miles away is looking at So.Fla.kid think of the scrutiny that major schools
including the U are doing.Nothing unusual about Bama!
