I think Walton would do work for us now as a dc though ...with the experience he developed up there in the league......he's a randy disciple as u can tell by his lack of aggressiveness in covg.....but i think he has little less stubbordnedss and flexibility.

I didn't think Young ended up being that much better, especially down the stretch. Stats probably say otherwise.
 
I think John Lovett did a good job for us as DC..............................and I would take Walton back in a heartbeat.
 
I was not a fan of Lovett's defense. It seemed soft to me (Not as soft as Dnofrio's). Young was my favorite since Randy was DC. Young loved to blitz and he used the fact that we had fast players to our advantage. We did get burned some, because he liked to blitz a lot, but it was worth it.

I still really wish we could get Rick Petri back to coach the DL. I was so ****ed when Al let him go for punk *** Jethro.

Was it during that game that Nix said he pulled Marve temporarily so he wouldn't be tired for the 4th? Or was that a different '08 game.

Petri was great teachiing technique, from what I heard. I guess Young was closer to running the 4-3 slide that was JJ's defense. JJ always said his defense would give up big plays, because the theory was that you took risks to create havoc and cause turnovers.

Not sure why you chest puffing as it proves nothing with regards to Shannon firing him in 2007 after 1 year. NOTHING.

I was not overly familiar with the old staff situations from the 90's as I was young and didn't follow things that deeply, but I do remember when Randy brought in Petri and our pass rush improved significantly that season. I was a fan for life after that. I was super bitter to see Al let him go and then keep someone like Aubrey Hill around who sucked imo.

You know people always talk about recruits reading these boards. I remember when Petri got let go, there was a poster on Canesport who had less than 10 posts claiming to be Petri's son and talking about how his family loved the Canes and they did Petri wrong. Take it for what it's worth as it's just as likely he was some troll, but it did seem heartfelt at the very least.

Damnit Al, I'd bet Petri would have turned our scrub *** DL into something.
