I understand the theory behind locking threads after a commit to highlight the new committment thread and not confuse readers, but process is still a little rough. Various ideas have been posted on how to improve the process, collecting them in one thread.

Suggestion #1: The last post in the old thread should link to the new thread before its locked. I'm even debating if the first post in the original thread should be updated to link to the new thread.

Searches will still uncover the old thread and some of them just end like a cliff hanger w/o this.

Its work for me to have to go back and relink to the new thread. That might avert this (not sure, but it could help)

Normally, when threads are locked, and a new one created, we add 2.0, 3.0 etc to the title so its clear there are multiple threads on the recruit and older one was locked. Can we do the same thing here with the new thread?

For the old thread, can the title be updated to add [PRE-COMMIT] or something similar?

I guess the point of locking thread is to draw attention to a front page article but after a certain point when thats over can the other thread be unlocked.. usually the main info is in the original thread and the commit thread is just a bunch of welcome post.. In future a post in original thread might need to be bumped and its in locked thread.. Seems kinda counterintuitive if the whole point is to create more content to lock threads.. That **** is annoying lmaoo..

Right. Explain to veteran posters exactly why it is being done. No one is adding content to Pete’s extra threads really… so we are left with: a solid and lengthy locked thread; a second thread which is the ad for Pete’s article, then a third ad for Pete’s Ted Talk on his opinion of the event…

I appreciate OP trying to maximize the solution because the original explanation of the “locked thread is confusing” was clearly met with “sorry, we love you, but you’re wrong”

Updating the thread title and OP is really the most logical answer.

Update Title to Committed.

Update OP to include commitment Tweet or article, and reference the page number that is starts.

Anything else is silly

I can’t believe this is an actual discussion

Make a shiny new official article about the commitment with a link in the OP to the other discussion thread

No need to lock anything

What's the point of posting in a player thread after he's committed? The same post can just go in the commitment thread.

What I've landed on is: (1) make commitment thread (which also becomes a front page story); (2) link original player thread in commitment story; (3) post the commitment thread link in the original player thread; and (4) lock the original player thread.

The main thing people are missing is that we need a front page story/thread after the commitment. The player threads are ill-suited for that treatment because the OP is usually several months before the commitment.

This is a good idea. I'll add this to the post above.

Create your front page post and let people post where they want. No one has objection with new post being created its just locking a thread with on going convo for eternity makes no sense. I can respect wanting to draw new people with front page content but you also have a solid base of LOOOOONG time posters who also should be listened to more than just potential new posters.

Lock thread for a couple days if you need to but unlock it after and let the people who post decide.. But its whatever..
