This was a game of 3 halves. First the Canes go up 19-0 and have all the momentum. During that time the common theme from the GT fans I was surrounded by was the Miami has too many athletes. I was pumped. Then the Malcolm Lewis injury happened. I was literally at the very top of the stadium and could see his leg was not right. I knew it was bad when I believe Walford came to help Lewis up and immediately turned around like he was going to puke. At that point although James punched it in two plays later the young Canes lost just enough focus to let GT score 36 straight points. GT fans were roaring. Some were talking about the ACC championship of all things. At this point a Miami team under the two former regimes would have folded like a house of cards. Yet the Canes roared back and absolutely dominated the 4th quarter and OT by scoring 23 straight points.

Mad props to Golden and staff for not letting the game get out of control. I can't say enough what it meant to me to see Golden hugging Lewis. He is a great coach and even better person. It seems that Kehoe has not only the starting unit but the backups playing at a high level. To me this is a combination of another year in the Utough program and Kehoe getting back to his roots so to speak. Very impressed by the game Fisch called. He ran circles around Groh. The screen play for the tie score was a thing of beauty. As soon as James caught it was clear he would score. This was the type of play I have been jealous of watching teams like USC and Oregon score on for several years now.

For year I have been jealous every time I look at box scores for the likes of Oregon and Wisconsin. We racked up 600 yards yesterday. That was impressive. I hope there is more to come of that. What is clear is we finally have multiple athletes to put up those numbers. Now it is all about consistent execution.

OL played nasty. Ben Jones impressed. Linder and Felciano opened up some nice holes as well.

James ran with a purpose. This game will give him more confidence going forward.

Duke is the ultimate teammate. He was right there with Golden when Lewis was down. He was also first person off bench to congratulate James each time he scored. Love everything about this kid.

Serious question, has Devon Johnson ever dropped a pass? Yes he has had limited opportunities but he may have the best hands on the team. Also impressed by his YAC. I never could understand why he did not contribute more his first 4 years.

Corey King played a bunch and was there for the most part down the stretch. He will get better and seems to have a quick first step.

Chick was dominant. This could be the game that propels him to be an elite player.

Eddie Johnson is nasty. This kid is an old school Cane. No wonder he was ****ed about the depth chart. No way anyone is better than him other than DP.

I gave up on McGee last year. He has turned his career around. He is physical and fast. I still cannot believe he ran down the GT player on the long run that got called back by offsetting penalties. That was pure effort and those are the types of plays that make you a leader.

Bush is going to be special. He will be a play maker for us.

Read a lot of comments dogging Cornelius. That is not the game I watched. While not a great performance he knows how to play the option. He played well against GT last year and did not disappoint this year. The problem is he is not big enough to be dominant at LB. He is a safeties body playing LB. That being said he put himself in good position and made sure tackles. Let's not forget he made a TD saving tackle on 2nd an goal in OT.

Morris needs to be more consistent. That will happen with more reps. Fisch is still able to do more things with the O this year then he could last year with Harris.

Dorsett great game. Please shore up the fumbling issues.

Davon earned himself some QT moving forward. It's nice to see a senior step up. That's what we need. We need some upperclassmen mixed in with all these young guys.

I think DJ should be a starter moving forward.. he hasn't done anything wrong to not get any playing time..

I don't get why they criticize Cornelius either. I always see him in position to make plays. He's just way too small to be a LB.

I think Davon Johnson truly earned the PT he will see the rest of the way (in the absense of Malcolm Lewis).

Good insight all around in the OP.

An excellent post!

I think a lot of young men gained some confidence and respect with the way they cowboy'd up at GT.

No more guessing whether or not they can make the big plays when it's absolutely necessary - they KNOW they can now.

The degree of substitution and willingness of the staff to try and put players in defined positions to maximize their skills (do your job, master your role to get a bigger role, etc) should reap huge benefits in the years to come in terms of on-field results, recruiting pitches, and overall team unity and togetherness - my guess is everyone who traveled felt like they contributed in some way to the victory. As D$ mentioned in his thread, King and Grimble were the DT's on the 4th down play in OT, Ben Jones played key minutes at the end of the game and Nantambu Fentress had a big play on third down! The coaches do seem to have confidence in the players and give them the opportunity in the game to produce, even as they play through mistakes. Golden often mentions that who practices best starts, and who plays best finishes. They are definitely giving players an opportunity to earn playing time.

I think this young team spent 3 games being wowed by college ball, and in the middle to that game decided they are now over it, and just played ball like they know how. Sky is the limit.

Sounded and looked like we were well represented fan wise. Props to all the Atl area Canes and others who were there.

My son and I were also surrounded by Tech fans on Saturday and it was really rough from the 2nd to midway thru the 3rd, but boy was it sweet from the 4th on. Great victory, happy my young son got to see an epic Cane win

Real proud how the defense fought back. Young an still learning, but if i recall correctly we shut them out from the 10 minute mark forward in the third. Those young men kept their poise am learned from K-state
