We can ask Yearby how leaving early and not getting his degree is working out.

Yearby is a different situation. He literally couldn't have been a worse candidate for measurables/combine testing. MJ is actually a plus for him. Advising a kid not to cash in just bc you want experience to return is selfish.

I love him to death and his improved play the last 4 weeks is one of the main reasons are defense is so good but 5'9.5 190 lb safetys that run 4.7's usually don't go that high in the NFL draft..Jaquan Johnson isnt going anywhere this year.

I'm probably a bit of a Jaquan apologist, but so much is mentioned about his lack of speed and range, but I don't see it during the games. I try to get through the [MENTION=5374]HurricaneVision[/MENTION] recaps as much as I can, and I don't recall seeing much there either. Can anyone point to instances where his speed negatively impacted us?

He definitely isn't the quickest guy I've ever seen, and maybe that will get exposed in the league. But for us, I don't see his speed being an issue for us.

Correct. Sell high MJ. Will measure/test out really well at combine. Great film for 1 year of starting. Don't chance an injury or more film where you could possibly be exposed.

JJ needs to put out feelers & go from there. I think he will be back.

No one pushing them out the door, we would all love for them to come back. But at the end of the day, they have to make a decision best for them. Ask Dee Delaney how staying in college to try and up his draft stock is going for him. This the reason we need to stack chips.

I'll wait on the rest of the season to see how delaney does, he has been solid after the first two games.

That was Knowles on the TD to Izzo. To the extent JJ was involved, he was out of position - (lack of) speed/range had nothing to do with it.

I was at the ND game and haven't rewatched yet, so I can't comment on that play. But I will keep an eye out for it when I do rewatch.

Pushing kids out with no degree and hoping they do enough to get drafted and maybe stick on a team is not advising then, its being foolish and a cheerleader. There were a lot of people here last year talking about how great it was for Yearby and Kaaya to leave early and they "got to feed the family". "This years draft is so bad for their position they will have a chance to get drafted."

There are a lot of people who should be respecting a degree a heck of a lot more. Especially from a small private school. There are also a lot of people who should wake up to reality that even if these guys have been studs all their life at all leaves means nothing because there are people who were studs their entire life at all levels who can't even get into the Arena League or CFL, much less the NFL.

We have several coaches who have proven or are currently proving they can improve the players. Soak that up as much as you can while you can. Get as good as you can before going in. The NFL is not going to put up with getting guys ready because they don't have the luxury. If you are going to make that jump early you better be ready to hit the ground running and be ready to take a job from someone else and keep the next younger guy like you from taking yours.

He can’t stay on the field because he is constantly ******* up off the field. He was a 2013 recruit and is still around even though he is supremely talented because he doesn’t have enough film to jump to the NFL.

It's called a draft advisory board. It's free & is an effective (legal) tool for these kids to be informed.

High grade- Get paid
Mid grade - Discuss with family & do what you feel is best
Low grade - Get back to work

Miami allows former athletes to finish their degrees for free.. Get drafted, make a few million, wash out.. he can always return to finish up his degree. The problem is when kids don't listen to the right advice.

I see Knowles transferring after this year . The 2018 is pretty much going to push him further in the depth chart

The average SS at the NFL combine since 1999 has run a 4.58 40 and the average FS has run a 4.58. He really needs to run in the 4.5's to be a decent pick.

Erik Coleman is the slowest FS I saw that got drafted out of my tracked group and he ran a 4.64 and was picked at 5.11 by the Jets.

We were literally dogging both JJ and MJ in the first 3-4 games... now all of a sudden they are Juniors leaving early??? with the entire year averaged in, both players are having a "good" year.. not great, not elite.... I dont see either as juniors you advise to leave.... IMO RJ is the only junior that has built an entire resume, including a great, if not, elite DT junior year... Norton has not had the year I thought he would.. not bad.. but just not outstanding junior year worth leaving early for... outside of RJ, if all our juniors stay for their senior year, i could see JJ, MJ and norton all being on all the award watch list next year.. getting hyped every single game... the nation "just" started hearing of these guys in the last 2 games...

all this "feed the fam" talk, yet.. to this day.. several of the '01 canes swear they would give up all their riches to continue to live their UM days.... and IMO, creating a culture of mass exodus of juniors creates the same "me first" attitude that destroyed us... when its not about the U, and we're just a stepping stone to NFL watch what happens...

Difference is this year we have more national recognition which will improve these kids draft stock based on that alone as well as how good they are playing

Although true, Johnson falls somewhere between mid-to-low grade based on measurables. Yearby's move didn't make any sense, even though you had a good portion of fans that said "well, he's not going to go any higher than he is now, might as well leave". Yearby signed on for a camp spot and never even made it to a preseason game. Now he's coaching at a HS whereas he could've played his final season right now on a potential playoff team. He also would've likely been the featured back once Walton went down sharing snaps with Homer.

Going back to Johnson, he could still improve his game a bit. He's a good prospect, but he can improve.

The biggest knock on Jaquan Johnson will be his athleticism. That knock is going to be there if he declared this year, or stays his senior year and leaves next year. The problem is he has gotten exactly zero draft hype this year. So I don't think he should leave early because I think if he returns for his senior year like Ed Reed did, he can get a lot more draft hype. But this is also a down year for DBs in general. Last year was absolutely loaded at DB. This yr the CB class is garbage....which is actually why Michael Jackson should really consider leaving early. But for Jaquan I think he should stay because I think he needs his stock to be as high as possible entering Combine/Pro Day season because I don't think he'll have a great showing those days.

He’ll probably be a preseason AA if he comes back. That ALONE will improve his stock. He, Norton, & Jackson leaving would be idiotic. RJ I can see but still feel like it would be a bad move. If he comes back he can go top 10 next year.
