It's good we didn't get the transfer at RB. Yall acting like we're in a dire situation at RB. Fact is Homer is a good RB. Chocolate, Deejay, and Burns are more talented than most ACC teams even have on their roster. Yall can say they aren't ready to play all you want but if they are forced to play, we will still have a better player at RB than most P5 teams. Is it the best situation? Obviously not. But It's not that big of a deal because RB is an easy position for a True Frosh to play.
We are in a much worse position at TE than we are at RB. And its not even close imo. I don't think getting a grad transfer would be that bad of an idea. I do think Jordan will be ready to play, but how good of a blocker will he be as a True Frosh? Cause Irvin isn't very good at it if he is even still on the team next yr. Polendey isn't ready this year, but will he be next year? Mallory is definitely too small to make an impact next year in the run game. I think he could get PT in the passing game for sure though. Unless Patchan shows he can step up for us at TE, I think a Grad Transfer would be solid IF we have room for one.
Pure insanity.
It doesn't matter if Dallas and Burns "are more talented", they are pure freshmen and they are not ready to play. Gray isn't much better.
Then you have the factor of how many times a running back touches the ball vs. a tight end. Again, no comparison. A running back takes the ball and has to navigate through the defensive line. A tight end is usually covered by one DB or LB, or is tackled by one DB or LB.
Finally, think about this simple issue. Trayone Gray did not play at all against Syracuse, while Patchan did.
The bottom line is that we have more depth at TE than we do at RB.
You don't think a true freshman can be "ready" to play RB? They do it all the time all over the country. Dallas didn't play against Syracuse because he didn't need to play. I'm not sure if Burns is physically cleared to play, but if he is, then he's ready too. And so is Crispian Atkins, who is now on scholarship. Gray's ready to play too.
You keep harping on depth when, in actuality, your quarrel seems to be with the talent. There's plenty of depth there as of 6 games into the season.
Respectfully, you're wrong.
The issue is not whether a freshman CAN get ready to play RB. The issue is whether OUR freshmen are ready to play RB. And they are not.
Dallas just got moved to RB, from a practicing-to-get-ready-to-play standpoint, in the last few weeks. The comments by our RB coach indicate that he has not yet picked up enough about pass protection to be ready to be trusted on the field. Yet.
As for Burns, he isn't cleared to play, and he won't play this year. I don't know if the coaches have formalized that conclusion, but that's the reality, even if some people are so desperate to claim depth that we're going to put a fragile kid on the field before he's had a year in our strength and conditioning program to improve his durability.
And now you are claiming a walk-on, who was just given a scholarship, as if he is on the same level as RECRUITED scholarship players.
Whatever. You're always right. You were absolutely DESTROYING Tweed and Lingard before Lingard committed, even though people tried to convince you that Lingard was a Miami lock.
I have tremendous respect for you and your thought process, but if Homer goes down with a season-ending injury, we have NOBODY who can be entrusted to play an entire game, and we have our two toughest games ahead of us. Trayone Gray didn't even play in the offense against Syracuse. Nor did Deejay Dallas. Burns might never play, and Super Walk-On is not the answer.
Yes, they are all talented. They COULD be ready to step in for Homer. But they are not ready yet.
Nobody is saying that any grad transfer would be a perfect replacement for either Walton or Homer. But a grad transfer who was at Clemson for multiple years is a better bet to be able to line up and give some pass protection, or take a few carries, or serve as an outlet receiver.
If Homer goes down, Rosier is going to be our leading rusher AND he'll be throwing 50 passes per game. And that didn't work out so well for Dungey at the end of the Syracuse game.
