I have noticed over the years how teams such as OSU, FSU, Alabama and other top end schools give scholarships to players that will never play a quarter, but keep then away from schools such as The U that are in such need. This strategy helps us stay down!

I guess when we were up we used to apply The "Surplus" Strategy as well, but with a 10 win season and a conference title, we could begin to apply such a strategyand keep everyone in SFL.

Stay positive CMR, next year players will not want to play anywhere but at The U!

What? Each school brings in the best players that they can to fill their roster. Surplus strategy? This isn't the 70s...you get 85 players.

I respectfully disagree. With a limit of 85 ships teams can't take kids that will never pan out. Kids can also transfer out. That may keep them from coming to schools like Miami, but when player A that we wanted goes to Bama, and flames out, we think glad they didn't come here. Usually what happens is a lower rated kid goes out of the state of Miami and does well, and we are saying **** we should've taken him.

Some of us then say, he wouldn't have achieved here like he did there:(

If we 'need' a kid who will never play a down or quarter at a conference rival school, then just shut the program.

He may be referring to promising kids spots that you don't have. Promise spots to 30 kids figuring 5 won't get in. If more than 25 get in you drop some. Or nor.

Certainly before the scholarship restrictions Bama and others gave ships to kids just to keep them from opponents. Bear even bragged about doing it. I think I remember Howard saying something about the restrictions being one of the things that help lift us to the title.

Sounds like he is referring to a school recruiting guys, not because they think they can play, but for the purpose of keeping them away from rivals. A strategy that does not make any sense at all.

I think with good coaching and the right players you can see development. Thus having less kids who may be lowered rated going out of state and doing well. Statistically you can't take them all so you have to maximize the one's who commit and do not transfer out.

No offense. To op but this doesn't exist anymore in today's college football

With a hard cap of 85, each school must fill their roster with who they believe will best help their team. Trams cannot afford to waste roster spots to hurt opponents.

Besides fsu and Alabama and Ohio state go for the same recruits we do so there's not a difference in program prestige. When we get recruits it's typically over those schools and vice versa

The strategy isn't called surplus it's called competition.you bring in the best players possible and through intense competition the lessor caliber players dont crack the line up.

Its also called building quality depth. Some kids may never play, but you best believe they push the starters throughout the week preparing for the game.
