Even though I am new to this site as a diehard canes fan I felt compelled to speak on this issue. I went to prep school in New England and played football with and against kids from broward and Dade counties. My roommate left Dade county went to St Petersburg and then came to prep school. In addition my prep school head coach is from the Philly area and has had many interactions with Al Golden frequently. Some of the coaches in South Florida are so sliming that they try to sell kids even to prep schools. They frequently want college coaches to invite them up to campuses for "speaking engagements" throughout the summer to pocket a couple extra thousand or so, which is common practice in the SEC. Obviously they want package deals for players that have not garnered the right to a scholarship. Al golden never believes in package deals even when temple was at its worst and they were kicked out of the Big East for being awful he would not do high school coaches favors for players. Now on the other hand Randy Shannon did this you can look at certain classes and clearly see what was going on. Mr. Harris himself leveraged his son and “inside access to all of the local kids" in order to gain a job on the staff and Randy obliged. Others on the staff and within the department questioned the hire. Someone needs to step up and tell the truth about these coaches. From what I have been told by my coach Al Golden is a man of integrity and high character who deeply cares about his players. All this bashing needs to stop. He is not Randy Shannon and is not doing favors. I believe this is why certain highschool coaches in the area didnt like R.S. he layed favorite to some and disrespected others. We need AL Golden to stay as long as possible..

Great post brother. I too wonder why local newspapers have not jumped on this ongoing issue with high school football in South Florida.

Thanks. It just saddens me to see this done to a man that respects all. The fact that people have used race and the inner city angered me even more. Alot of your major prep schools in New England have systems in place to weed out scum coaches using kids for their own agenda. I am just surprised that no one does some investigative work and writes an expose.

great stuff. Look at the promises made and broken to Marve and JH and their fathers to see Shannon's MO, and what that kinda style gets us.

This is the same kind of garbage that goes on TOP down in Miami-Dade in every walk of life.

I think the U should recruit and take all local players...........that are qualified and want to be Canes.

I live in Northern Cal so I am just learning about South Fla football (my kid goes to the U so I have become a rabid fan) but I think crazy the crap Golden is taking from some of the "fan base" and, if its accurate reporting, from HS coaches.

Bryant had the "Cane Commit" listed on his twitter profile, praised Golden's "swag" just before NSD and was listed as the king of Trolls on this site but he gets pilloried for "losing" him? (not to mention he gets sent home from the FAU visit; what kind of charachter does that display?)

Thomas chose to skip the big recruit weekend to go to USC and, it seems to me from afar, never seemed to express any interest or respect for the Canes...............and then later he blames the Kirkland situation?

Who REALLY knows what happened with Kirkland? But I saw quotes afterward from Kirkland family that they had no issues with the U after the weekend meeting. But why do they even pursue a meeting with the U if they really didnt want to go there?

And Collins? Oh please, you cant put that on Golden? clearly there are other issues at play.

If these kids want to play games with hats, with their HS coaches in their ears, thats cool but they shouldnt be holding the coach or team hostage. Epecially when Golden is in a tough spot with roster #'s, NCAA etc. The U and Golden shouldnt demean themselves and put up with it. The U is better than that and kudos to Alonzo Highsmith for speaking out earlier today.

what a story if Shaprio was handing out cash to HS coaches too for certain players....Shhhhhhhhhh shut my mouth

The problem with recruiting is all the gorwn *** men making $$$$$$ delivering their kids to the highest bidder

I understand that we poe down here so I cant completely blame some of these corches. NCAA don't care then highschool coaches and people like Torian Bean dont care

Miami doesn't need Luke any other HS coach to succeed !!! We will get players who want to be Hurricanes...
