The Miami Hurricanes’ recruiting for 2014 is well underway. This class will be very significant for the Canes since it will be the first class coming out from under the NCAA shadow of possible sanctions. Head Coach Al Golden has attracted some very fine recruiters during the off-season, particularly in the South Florida area.

Each week, a panel at CanesInSight will vote on the top 10 remaining Canes prospects. We’ll take a shot at ranking the Canes’ ten most important remaining prospects. Consider them as “must sign” for our Canes. Jump in and tell us who your “Perfect 10” is this week.

This week 19 prospects received votes.

Things can and will change through out the year. Check back each week to see who’s on…

“The Perfect 10”

1. RB Sony Michel

American Heritage (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
Composite Rating: 99 Rank: #2 RB

Summary: Sony Michel- Michel is the arguably the best running back in the nation and could help Miami make a ridiculous backfield along with Duke Johnson and others. Michel is a RB Miami cannot miss on. – Tito Benach

2. DT Khairi Clark

Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Hollywood, FL)
Composite Rating: 98 Rank: #2 DT

Summary: Khari Clark addresses Miami’s number one critical need at DT. Khairi’s one of the best DT prospects in the nation, right in our backyard. UM cannot afford to let Clark leave south Florida. After last year’s failure at DT, Miami cannot miss on Clark. UM is in excellent position with Clark. Khairi is an avid Canes fan. He’s ours to lose. -TexCane

3. OT Kc McDermott

Palm Beach Central (West Palm Beach, FL)
Composite Rating: 98 Rank: 98 #2 OT

Summary: Kc McDermott is an elite national recruit sitting right in our backyard. The Canes want to keep him right there. We can’t let talent like McDermott leave South Florida. Many experts believe Kc is the best RT prospect in the nation. Kc has a bloodline to UM. Hisbrother, Shane, is UM’s starting center on the team. This should give us an edge. He certainly knows the program and school. Kc has visited campus at least a dozen times over the years. Is McDermott a lock? Maybe. Maybe not. Notre Dame has targeted him and the push is on to capture McDermott’s commitment. The Irish have even hired his other brother on their OL coaching staff. Coach Golden won’t give up without a fight. 4. WR Ermon Lane

Homestead (Homestead, FL)
Composite Rating: 98 Rank: #4 WR

Summary: Ermon Lane is a consensus 5-star recruit, and, in my opinion, the best Wide Receiver prospect in the country. His talent is undeniable, and is readily apparent after watching him for even 1 play on the field. Lane has dominated practice, game, combines and training camps.

Lane is important for a couple of reasons: Miami only took one receiver in the 2013 class, and needs to add playmaking ability and depth to that position; Lane is also related to one of our coaches (Michael Barrow), and that family connection should be beneficial to us; and, he's an elite South Florida kid who could presumably play anywhere. Keeping him home is a top priority for Golden and Co.

Lane sits near the top of my board (only after Sony Michel). He was offered by Miami a while ago, and claims 27 offers to date. Offers from Alabama, Ohio State, UCLA, Auburn, West Virginia, and Georgia lead the list. Many other schools figure to offer Lane, if only to say that they tried to get him and appease their fan base. I foresee his recruitment being a long, winding road that won't end until NSD. – Cameron Underwood

5. WDE Chad Thomas

Booker T. Washington (Miami, FL)
Composite Rating: 91 Rank: #13 WDE

Summary: Chad Thomas - Tall, fast Miami kid with a high motor. Has a chance to become the complete defensive end that Coach Golden has been looking for. Miami continues to recruit Thomas harder than anybody and he has already been on campus several times. - DMoney

6. SDE/DT Anthony Moten

St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
Composite Rating / Rank: 91 | #16 SDE

Summary: Anthony Moten is a solid performer who comes from a top HS program. He is a 4-star recruit who has the ability to play both outside (SDE) or inside at DT. Obviously, a full-time move inside would require Moten to add some weight, but he has the frame to easily support being 300-310lbs.

Moten has seen a slight rise in his recruitment during this offseason, but he was a known commodity before then. Moten boasts 22 offers from schools around the country. He has recently picked up offers from USC, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Alabama, among others. This competition shows how talented he is, and why he rests comfortably in our Perfect 10 rankings. - Cameron Underwood

7. RB Dalvin Cook

Miami Central (Miami, FL)
Composite Rating: 97 Rank: #6 RB

Summary: Dalvin Cook is another elite national running back prospect from South Florida. Miami's offensive philosophy is based around establishing a solid running attack. While Miami has Duke Johnson, the experience and depth at running back is very thin. It appears the Canes want at least two RBs in this class. The recent verbal commitment of HS teammate Joe Yearby poses the question of… Sony Michel and/or Dalvin Cook? There have been rumors that Cook may not want to attend college with his teammate. Right now, Dalvin is verbally committed to Clemson. Will that commitment hold up or will Cook decide to stay home and be part of a dynamic running attack for years to come? It’s a long way to NSD! - TexCane

8. WDE Keyon Brown

Hardee (Wauchula, FL)
Composite Rating: 95 Rank: #7 WDE

Summary: Keyon Brown- Brown’s interest has slowly risen due to the number of visits he has made. He has stated numerous times that Miami is one of the schools "sticking out" for him. Brown provides the pass rushing speed Miami needs off the edge along with good size. – Tito Benach

9. WDE Lorenzo Carter

Norcross (Norcross, GA)
Composite Rating: 100 Rank: #1 WDE

Summary: Lorenzo Carter may be Coach Golden’s top national recruit this year. He’s a beast, the best WDE in the nation. Carter would make a very nice pairing with 2013 SDE Al Muhammad. And Lorenzo likes Miami. He has the Canes in his top 12 schools at this point in the process. - TexCane

9. CB Chris Lammons

Plantation (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
Composite Rating: 88 Ranking: #52 ATH

Summary: Chris Lammons has gone from a little-known high school quarterback to one of the most sought-after cornerback prospects in the nation. He proved he could cover on the 7on7 circuit and looks to be further along than Brandon McGee was at the same age. Miami was on him first and looks to be in the driver's seat. - DMoney

Just missed: Johhnie Dixon, Kiy Hester, and Kain Daub

“A Perfect Ten”

Miami is known for its fun and sun. It’s also known for its beautiful women. We can’t have “The Perfect 10” prospects without also having “A Perfect 10.”

Let’s start our new series off with the original “Perfect Ten.”

I'm incredulous that anyone voted for someone other than Clark as #1. :)

i get Sony at 1 just because he is so heralded and respected that it will influence lots of top prospects to follow him, but from there it's #2 Clark and #s 3,4&5 big time DTs

The list is light on DBs. Might be just the reality of our recruits, but i'd probably put jojo over Carter. National recruits we have no real way to know yet how serious they are about UM. Aso, with two other DEs on that list, don't see a reason to have an OOS DE on it too. Could see that at a position otherwise not covered.

I want Mike Smith, replace him for Carter IMO
I'd say replace Mike Smith for Dalvon Cook. We gotta let this dude go aleady.Yearby said "I want to be a Cane", and in the end I think we land Sony. All this chasin a player that doesn't really have his mind set on being here...
