The Palmetto 5 up next. What’s your thoughts

The realest response I’ve seen on this site yet!

Why is it "the realest"? Because it is the most pessimistic?

We have 1. I'm not saying we will get all 5, or even that we want all 5 (there seem to be legit concerns on Savion).

But momentum could carry us to 4. Who knows.

The "realest response" would be that Miami might be helped if some other SEC landing spots don't pan out. Which, in some ways, makes it seem like I'm poor-mouthing the kids, which I'm not. I'm just saying that even LSU and Alabama have their own backyards and their own scouting and their own priorities and their own IC limitations.

I just listened to Manny Navarro's latest podcast - he talks about the team and COVID as well as some recruiting info. With regard to the Palmetto kids, he spoke to one of the coaches there about them. He said that he was told Leonard Taylor was recently measured and is 6' 5, 291 lbs. In his estimation he is 85% going to Miami. He says that Taylor maintains contact with the UF coach since he's known him for a long time.

He also said that Collins has been working on his relationship with Miami and he would be surprised if Miami doesn't ultimately keep him. Again, this is a coach saying this, fwiw. He said that Collins is 6'4 and weighs 331 lbs.

He said Miami is in good shape with Brashard Smith - Smith has a great relationship with Lashlee and is comfortable with what Lashlee is telling him his role would be on offense.

Not much said on Marshall or collier.

I am actually a little higher than others on the board about Curtis but with his 11.1 100m speed any chance we can use him for track and open another spot? I mean according to 247 his other offers are BC, Western KY and Georgia Southern so I do not think it would be a huge slap in the face to still offer him a spot but just have him run track as well.

Let’s say we did go down this rabbit hole (hypothetically), do we have kids we could nudge out without looking bad?

I’m in the camp that we get LT and Smith, Collins goes to UF which I’m fine with. As far as Collier and Marshall I think the odds are better than some may think that we end up with one of them, if I have to pick which one I think it will be I think Collier is trending to us.

I’ve always thought Collier is just a troll but with Williams staying home all bets are off.

Leonard is coming
Brashard is 70-80% Cane (Florida, Oregon, Nebraska & Tennessee still pushing, but his parents want him close to home)
Savion is 50-50 with us and UFag, mom wants him here
Jason is going to Bama
Idk where Corey is going (it doesn't really matter)

So UF got an interview with Jason Marshall's father tonight. Here are the highlights:

It’s been about a couple of months now but the younger Marshall took a virtual tour of the Gator program from his home because of the shutdown of everything due to COVID-19. Mr. Marshall happened to be working from home at the time, so he doesn’t know too much about the tour.

“He told me it was good, but I didn’t ask him any details or nothing like that,” he said in a late Wednesday night conversation on the phone.

Mr. Marshall does know that his son has visited Gainesville and the Florida campus “at least two times”, and also said that he had the opportunity to take a trip as well. He said it’s the only program he’s visited so far.

“Just once. It was good I can’t compare it to any other campuses because I haven’t been to any, but it was pretty good,” he said about the lone visit.

“The surrounding area was good as far as the actual city. Everything was pretty much in close proximity. The facilities were good, the weight room facilities, and the academic hall. The locker rooms and stadium was good. Again I can’t compare it to any other one so I can’t say it was good compared to such and such.”

When asked what he thought might stand out about Florida, Mr. Marshall certainly had one thing in mind. Florida head coach Dan Mullen and his staff have made sure to point out that the program is part of the only Top 10 public academic institution and Top 10 football program in the country for each of the last two seasons.

Mr. Marshall was quite clear that the decision will be the younger Marshall’s to make, but he did rattle off some reasons for an eventual decision.

“There are quite a few things to try and narrow it down to a couple, but obviously the distance from home plays a part,” he said. “The ease and convenience of traveling to wherever he goes plays a big part. The weather plays a part. Obviously the coaching staff. The ability to compete for a position and play. There are quite a few things. It isn’t something we talk about that often, but if it comes up and we think about it, we will discuss it.”

Marshall announced a Top 5 of Florida, Alabama, LSU, Miami, and Oregon last week after it was thought that he previously narrowed things down to Florida and Alabama. Regardless, things will be up to the younger Marshall and he tries to steer clear.

“I leave it up to Jason,” he said about talking to the college coaches. “Whatever his feelings are for the coaching staff or the school, it’s up to him. We just support him. At the end of the day he’s the one that has to go, not us.”
