Everyone made such a big deal about the big hot streak we had after losing back to back series to Virginia and Florida State. Let's take a look at those 23 games that got everyone so excited.
Total record: 19-4
vs. non-tournament teams: 10-0
vs. #4 seeds: 3-0
vs. #3 seeds: 3-1
vs. #2 seeds: 3-1
vs. #1 seeds: 0-2
So in that entire time that made everyone think we were national seed material, we played exactly one of the top 16 teams, and we went 0-2 with two blowouts.
While some of you are congratulating each other on such a fine season, the only thing that kept it from being the same as the last six seasons was the easiest path to Omaha in the last 25 years. If we're not over-seeded and are forced to face an actual D-1 baseball team before Omaha, we never sniff the place.
The two games against Florida proved how far we are from being elite. We ARE NOT one of the top six teams in the country.
