The big 2014 Miami football guide - By Bill Connelly

I agree with most of the article, however, Heaps was a top QB at BYU. It wasn't his fault they switched the offensive scheme. We are one QB away from being a great team. This year we have a lot to prove and bring home the ACC title for once. Most importantly, this is Golden's team now. No more excuses for anybody. I'll reserve my judgement until the season ends unlike the majority on this board. There's no team in sports that I'm more passionate about. Every year is a new start. Talent is where it needs to be. Be faithful, even to the point of death.

I knew it wouldn't take long for you to show up. Yes, I have been watching the last 3 years. Our QB play has been just short of bad, kind of like your style. On a side note, when you go 3 and out every single possession, what do you think happens to your defense?

Ah the old, we don't have a bad defense, its not the scheme we just need to control the clock for 40 minutes a game.

We've had a ****** defense 100% under Dorito, no doubt about it. Absolutely NO debate about it. Historically bad. But there's also zero doubt that Morris' horrendous inconsistencies contributed to those stats as well. The guy could come on the field and get off of it faster than just about any QB I've ever seen.

Last 3 years? What did you watch before that 82, cause it must not be Miami football. By the way, how is Randy doing in Arkansas?

The truth lies somewhere in the middle, here...as it does most of the time.

Our DT play and recruiting have been abysmal, and it takes a longazz time to implement a 3-4 in college...mainly because 3-4 guys don't grow on trees...and also, don't come out of HS ready to play the way a 3-4 demands you play (especially as a DL or LB). NoDFrio and Golden are married to it though, so we're stuck with it as long as they're here because they're not gonna change the scheme.

On the other hand, our 3rd down % offensively has been horrid. It's been discussed on here ad nauseum, but Morris just didn't make the throws to the short/intermediate routes well enough to keep the chains moving--and that problem only got worse when Duke went down last year, and the running game suffered as a result. Explosive plays were good, but when you have a sucky defense, keeping them off the field by possessing the football and scoring in a methodical manner is a must. When you have an explosive play to score once every 3-4 possessions or so, and the rest of the time you're 3-and-out, then your D is going to get winded...and even good defenses break down terribly when forced to be on the field for 3/4 of the game.

So...you're both wrong/right in your own special ways.

No doubt and I've never stated anything different. My issue is with the tards that think just because we control the clock on offense its going to make our D so much better. That's wrong on so many fronts. It didn't matter if our D was fresh or not. They just sucked.

How is that even connected??? LOL nice try at deflecting from what we are dealing with today, not 4 years ago.

82, I agree our defense has stayed in the locker room on most gamedays, I stopped counting at 400 on how many times our offense was 3 and out. The offense wasn't hurry up and score it was hurry up and get off the field.

Our DT situation is scary. It's disheartening when none of the big uglies want to come here year after year. Our scheme might have something to do with it, but a 2-gap system is, overall, the most effective Proponents suggest it's most effective in combating today's sophisticated passing attacks, with their multiple formations and intricate routes, because a fourth linebacker allows a defense the luxury of disguising its blitzes and coverages better.

If I or anyone had even seen an inkling of that type of sophistication out of NoD, we wouldn't be slamming him and Golden daily about the scheme and hearing other fans state just wait till he has his guys. Eventually you guys are going to come to grips that we just don't have the elite X's and O's coaches we need. Golden sure the **** doesn't have it.

"But as they say, defense travels. And considering most of Miami's bigger games are on the road in 2014 -- Louisville, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech -- the Hurricanes' fortunes in 2014 will probably be tied to defensive competence."

Unfortunately, that kind of says everything. I real QB might make games more exciting and I really think we upset FSU last year if we had a great QB, but without a radically better defense, we are toast.

We are one QB away from being a great team.
LMAO, you must be new or haven't watched the last 3 years.

I think what he meant to say is that we are one quarterback, OC, DC, OL/DL coach, new scheme & an entire defense away from being able to win the coastal... Maybe. Also a few OL & a HC with a set of balls would help.

Exactly. Your ship is sinking. Hope you can swim in Lake Trafford.

LOL, I never said our D didn't suck. NO way to even attempt to say I spun it. Nice try though...

It's one thing to know you have a Chevy Cavalier. It's another thing to expect it to compete at the 24 Hours of Daytona. That bytch is gonna break down well before even the worst car made for that race. So...what to do? You put it in positions to not fvck your day up if you can. Race it against a Ford Pinto, if possible.

Same premise here. We agree our D sucks donkey ballz--but we're stuck with it. So, given that we do indeed have to play the games, and can't magically trot out the 2001 team's D out there, what's a gameplan that would help us win? Answer: don't have the D on the field as much so they don't have as much time in the game to suck it up. How do we accomplish that? Well, we can't punt/kick and hang on to the football. The only option left is to have the offense possess the football and be efficient while doing it.

If you don't get that it's common ******* sense, and not "spin", then I don't know what do tell you.

Where the **** did you come up with this fvckery? 5 games vs some of the worst competition in all of the NCAA and all of a sudden he's Robbie Bosco?
