C.E. King (TX) 4-star S Bryson Washington has been a highly-pursued national recruit in the 2020 class for over a year now with offers from schools like Alabama, Clemson, UGA, Ohio State, OU and a host of others from all around the country. The Miami Hurricanes also recently got in on the action when they offered Washington in February after he had a conversation with safeties coach Ephraim Banda.
“It was an amazing thing to hear from coach Banda,” Washington said. “Me and him were on the phone and he let me know I had the offer from them.”
Now that he has the offer, Washington is eager to visit Coral Gables and says he’d like to set up Miami as one of his five official visits.
“Miami is high on my list,” Washington said. “I’m trying to go visit up there really soon, like as soon as possible and get an official done there.”
What is it about the U that attracts him to the program?
“I love the tradition, knowing that I play safety and they honor DB’s up there,” Washington said. “Even the greatest of all time, Ed Reed, was up there - it’s just special.”
The 6’2” 195 pound safety prospect is currently slated to visit Oklahoma this weekend. While Washington has an idea of his top schools right now, he’d prefer to keep things open until the summer so as to not discourage other programs from pursuing him.
“I have a few schools in mind, but I’m keeping my options open, so no top dogs till this summer,” Washington said.
As a junior, Washington helped C.E. King to an 8-2 record, but the Panthers were bounced in the first round of the playoffs. That’s why for his swan song in high school, Washington is ready to take his game to the next level and make a run to the state title.
“It went pretty good,” Washington said. “We finished better than anyone expected. I did well but, it could’ve went better, so next year people are going to just have to see.”
A decision is not that far off for Washington, and he had previously planned to make his announcement on July 4th. However, he says he is open to changing that timeline in order to keep strengthening a relationship with one particular program.
“I was planning on 4th of July, but I may push it back because I want to build a connection with the U,” Washington said. “Distance isn’t a thing I’m too concerned about, it’s more getting an education at a great school.”
