Tell me about our linebackers for 2014

depends on the D line.....I still think we are missing a pure tackling machine....perryman coming back was huge...

Denzel Kirby Figs in a 4-3

Throw in AQM and Muhammad in 3-4 looks at LB when not at DE.

That's your starters. Best group we've had in a long time.

denzel coming back was huge. i think figs and grace make a jump this year. i can't believe kirby isn't an upgrade from gaines.

I really hope Kirby steps up this year. He was one of my favorite recruits in his class...would hate for him to not take the next step.

I think we will see this in our 3-4 (starters at that spot in 2013)

AQM/CThomas (Green)
Perryman/Grace (Perryman)
Kirby/Young (Gaines)
McCord/Figs/Armbrister (Armbrister)

We're definitely going to have more athletes on the field playing LB.

I'm not sure who all is going to play which LB position, but here's what I have in regards to LB position in our 3-4 scheme:

Jack LB AQM / Trent Harris / D. Hoilett / Demetrius Jackson (may RS) / Terry McCray (may RS)

MLB Kirby / J. Blue / Juwon Young

WLB Perryman / Grace / Darrion Owens (may RS)

SLB McCord / Figueroa / Armbrister / Michael Smith (may RS)

The X-factor at this position is Chad. I believe he will eventually grow into a 3-4 DE. However, until he gets more weight on him, I believe he might be able to play the 'Jack' position on some downs.

Stacked

OLB

AQM
McCord
Figueroa
Armbrister
Hoilett
Harris
Smith
Jackson

ILB:

Perryman
Kirby
Grace
Blue
Young
Owens
McCray

I hope we're able to redshirt Owens, Smith, and one of either DJ or Harris.

What about Jawand Blue. He was a beamer special which means by now his 3rd year he should be ready to beast.

hoilett isn't playing

Agreed!.. I had to stick him somewhere since he's still technically on the roster. Lol.

Like I said in my post, I still don't know who's going to play where. If let's say Chad plays some OLB, it may force guys like D. Jackson and McCray to RS. Now if Chad stays at DE and plays SDE (Chick's position) strictly on passing downs, Trent Harris, Mike Smith and maybe McCray may not need to RS.

I think McCray was brought in with Young to be groomed as MLB. I see shirts going to McCray and Michael Smith but not Darrion Owens. If you see Owens highlight tape he brings an added X Factor element to our Special Teams. Remember those highlight knockouts Futch and Colin McCarthy would make on special teams? Why this guy is an even bigger heat seeking missile. I got visions of Robert Bailey on kickoff

Chad was playing nose tackle against half BTW opponets last year and held his own...

I'm excited to see how Kirby, McCord, AQM and Figs progress. I think they'll play faster and more downhill than the guys here before making the D look much better.

harris and CT will both make contributions this year...I think AQM locks up a starting spot and does well...i love autobot but i worry that he might be a one trick pony (speed/edge rush) hope im wrong though cuz i love the kid

biggest question for me: do we get anything from hertelou/wyche? they come in expected to make an immediate impact but thats still a big question mark...as well as pierre...can he lock it down for us?

our defense will go as far as those guys can...if we get pushed around up front it trickles down to the entire defense...
