TE Danny Mattingly (ND commit) visited this weekend

GOAT swing if we get him to come here given the current state of our program and there's.

A quick google search shows that Notre Dame cooled on him and he is probably going to decommit soon.

So who do you take, the JUCO kid (Sandland, Vandereberbebreg)) or the guy who you can have for four years?

Edit: I guess if they are crazy they could take four TEs, or maybe this kid is a LB/DE

Kerr is gone IMO. Pretty clear we either soured on him and/or decided you are not good enough to flirt with FSU and stick here. If you're looking (and you're not a top player in the nation a la Collins/KBryant) we're looking

But Kerr is (probably) an OL

So Travis johnson, Standish Dobard, Jeremy Kerr, Beau Sandland and Mattingly? No wonder some folks are saying that they see Figueroa´s future at TE, who else are we supposed to rely on after the first 10 on the depth chart get injured?

Some of you aren't getting it. Butch did this with tremendous success. He brought in a bunch of athletic dudes who could play FB/TE/DE/LB and special teams. These guys eventually found homes and played well.

First of all, no one has signed an NOI yet.

Second of all, maybe we have this kid higher on the coaches' recruiting depth chart. You know the relevant one, not the one voted on by fans.

Third of all, it is possible that someone currently committed (i.e. Kerr) may be looking somewhere else and we want to protect our necks.

Finally, we need help at the TE position badly. We also likely have 2-3 kids there who may be asked to leave (White, Cleveland and/or Perry), so it wouldn't shock me to bring in 4 kids in total at a position with the severe need of depth and talent. I know many of you are excited for Walford but he isn't exactly a beast. The kid isn't too fast and drops a bunch of balls. I would certainly take an upgrade if one was available. When you run 2 TE sets, it is good to have 6-7 TEs on the roster.

Agree with this. I will say if Clive can build on what he did in the final two games, i.e. get open and catch the ball, he could be pretty good

The thing I see the coaching staff do is doing with this recruiting class is fill it with lbs des and te, reason for this is in my opinion is they fill spots really well for special teams and they are versatile, play oline dline fb.

DING DING DING. We have a winner. This is exactly correct. Butch did bring in a bunch of athletic kids who could grow into different roles. Many of these kids could end up at TE, DE, LB, FB.
