Before the season began, I was hoping for 8-4. With the talent and schedule we had 7-5 is about right. If the juniors would have stayed for their senior seasons we would have had 9 or 10 wins.

S. Morris was coached up nicely. I hope he takes a big leap forward in the spring. I would have liked to have gotten the backup QB in during mop up and blowouts atleast 4 times a season to build game experience. I know it is not done that way but it would help experience wise when your senior QB is gone. It would help with recruiting.

Duke was near perfect. One poster said he was the best recruit in 10 years. I would agree. I thought Dallas Crawford was going to get more playing time. Al talked him up during camp. The zone read could have been interesting on the goal line. I thought that Clement was going to get more carries. He may be near his talent ceiling. Mike James looked good against GA tech.

Davon Johnson was a pleasant surprise. I thought Lockhart was going to be our big play guy. He barely made the field. M. Lewis may be our number 1 receiver in the making. I hope he is ready for spring.

My expectations were low for our Dline. I thought the pass rush would come from blitzing LBers. The JuCo LB we just offered had 14 or so sacks by himself. The LBers that played all exceeded my expectations. I want to see Thurston and GTerry in a couple of years. I was hoping for a JVilma-like freshman year for RKirby. He barely saw the field. I had no idea Eddie Johnson was going to play like that. I hope he understands that he is at or near his last strike. I hope that Perryman can stay healthy.

Bush, Jenkins, and the freshman DBacks were all as advertised without a pass rush. McGee took a big leap forward. Teams are starting to throw at Thomas Finnie.

I wanted more of a spark at punt return. I would like to try someone else in the spring.

Surprises:

Duke - I thought he'd make an immediate impact, but nowhere NEAR what he did this year. Amazing.

Davon Johnson - kid was absolutely clutch in several games this year before injury. If someone had made that statement last Spring, who here would have bought it?

Deon Bush - another kid whom I expected to see the field, but have a steep learning curve. The knock on him during recruiting was that he "played soft." So much for that...

Brandon McGee - Really good year for another pre-Spring write-off. (see statement on Davon Johnson)

Honorable mention: Eddie Johnson, Olsen Pierre, Clive Walford's last few games

Disappointments:

Chick - a lot was put on his shoulders this year, perhaps unfairly, to be the anchor of the D-line. Outside of a good showing at GT (where all he had to do was run to the ball in space), he just flat out disappeared. I think he'll bounce back once we have any kind of legit pass-rush threat.

Asante Cleveland - last year's leading TE, I thought he was poised for a breakout. Has great measurables, but just flat-out couldn't do anything this year.

Luther Robinson - showed flashes, but daddy-drama and lack of production kinda ruined his season for me.

Honorable mention: Vaughn Telemaque, Dallas Crawford until the last 2 games

Outlook: 4 to 6 wins.

Surprises:
Getting to 7 wins
The young players like Duke, Bush, etc. Including guys that only made a few plays but look like they can play.

Disappointments: The entire Defense. Specifically guys like Chick and Perryman. I DP was hurt a lot of the year but even when he played he was not the difference maker I thought he could be.

DP was hurt by the fact that our DL was so bad, nobody on DL demands double team which would have opened up the game for our LBs

Here is reality...

- We have a dominating Offensive Line in the making, most of these guys are here two more years! Going in to next year, they could be one of the top in the country
- S. Morris IMPROVED as the season went on! I gotta say that it was refreshing to see such great QB play and that not be our downfall. Kid had 11 td's and 0 int's in last 4 games! He could be All American Caliber next year (weird to say)
- Duke was THE SURPRISE... and I agree with whoever said this is our best recruit in the last decade... most definitely. He is the Cam Newton/Reggie Bush/Tebow (hate to say it) type of player that will make your team go from a pretender to a contender. He WILL BE special!
- We have a TON of play maker WR's in the making. There is talent everywhere and finally a QB to get the ball to them!

Defense....

- What will make or break us next year is if we bring in 1 or 2 JUCO DL that will mold the other guys into a group that can put pressure. Honestly, this was what KILLED US the entire year. Keep your fingers crossed, because this is the group that needs the most improvement next year... not even close.
- LB's are very good, but very few. Perryman and EJ are elite. No other way to say that. I am hoping a couple of the younger guys step up and give us that third great starter and depth!
- DB's are almost in lock down mode. These kids are going to hold their own next year. I believe Bush and Jenkins will start at safety and between Gunter, Howard, Crawford and maybe Dortch/Hope there will be some great coverage. We have some good depth now and a lot of guys with playing experience!

Overall, this COULD BE a 10 win team next year, but again, Defensive Line will be our Achilles Heel!

Good post OP!

I'm gonna be honest chick isn't strong or fast he's just bad .

Sorry its the truth

I don't accept that. I think the guy had a ton of pressure on him to perform and I can't believe that so many programs aside from Miami were wrong about him. I look for him to bouncy back from a Sophomore slump.

I don't accept it either. Chick was on the field pretty much all season, moving inside, outside...made some plays here and there. Maybe not as productive as expected, but he was at least contributing. Vaughn Telemaque was the most disappointing to me in terms of 'on the field'. However, I heard through the grapevine that VT was asked to mentor the young safeties and fully embraced that role, even after they passed him on the depth chart. If true, then kudos to him for that. Can anyone with inside knowledge confirm this?

By far the biggest disappointment was Chick. Only, a sophmore but I expected much more. Surprises for me were Bush and Davon Johnson.

To the poster above I dont understand how u can be disappointed in Telemaque he's been garbage his whole career. I can't remember a player that has played and started so many games for UM in the first 3 years at UM and was as bad as Telamaque.

Senior. Highly rated recruit (4* on Scout). Took OV's to USC, Michigan, UNC, and Oregon and had offers from all of them. At some point, I figured the light might come on (think DJ Williams). In the end, I think he's a victim of the lack of development we saw from the Shannon staff. He just never recovered from it. So, yeah, he's my biggest disappointment. Chick was contributing at least.

Surprises:

Deon Bush. I thought he would need a RS but he turned out to be one of the best defensive freshman in the ACC.

Duke - We thought he was going to be good but not THIS good so quick. He'll be on that Heisman watch list next year.

Davon Johnson - About time this kid got PT. Hopefully he has a good offseason and shows out at the Pro Day

Seantrel - For all the talk before the season, he showed up and dominated whoever he went up against whether it was the kid from ND or Hitler from FSU.

Tyriq McCord - He's going to be a stud pass rusher

Brandon McGee - What a leap he made from his first 2 years here compared to the last 2 under Golden.

The Goon Squad - Who would've thought we'd have this many crazy people on our roster, let alone on defense. Terry, EJ & co are no joke.

Disappointments:

Curtis Porter - What could've been had he been healthy this year.

The TE position - God what a disaster they were this year.

Olivier Vernon - Imagine how much better this line would have been if he had come back?

Vernon could have made a huge impact on the season.
IMO he's another one of those guys that got lazy while in college and only decided to commit himself when it was profitable.
