Each of these situations is different, and, at least in Mavre's case, other considerations may have outweighed those related to football.

Cook did play QB at Rice in 2010. He got beat out for the starting job and switched position to TE in the Spring of 2011. He caught 8 passes last year. He didn't transfer to Rice just to be a punter.
