Week 5 was a good week overall for Florida teams. The combined record was 5-1 with USF having a bye week and FAU being the only loss. There was a lot of movement this week and only 3 teams remain in the spot they were last week.

1. Miami Hurricanes (4-1, 1-0 ACC) (Last Week: 1)

Last week: vs North Carolina Tar Heels (1-3) W 47-10

Next opponent: vs Florida State Seminoles (3-2)

Miami dominated North Carolina last week at home and did nothing but strengthen their hold on the number 1 spot. Miami’s defense forced 6 turnovers and returned 3 for touchdowns. Miami will likely be favored in all of their remaining games and will easily remain number 1 if they keep winning.

2. Central Florida Knights (4-0, 1-0 AAC) (Last Week: 2)

Last Week: vs Pittsburgh Panthers (2-3) W 45-14

Next opponent: vs SMU Mustangs (2-3)

Although it was Pittsburgh, UCF just dominated a Power 5 team. However, it was not enough to jump them past Miami. As was stated last week, UCF has a very weak schedule the rest of the way and will likely have to rely on a Miami slip up in order for the Knights to jump up in the rankings.

3. Florida Gators (4-1, 2-1 SEC) (Last Week: 4)

Last Week: at #23 Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-2) W 13-6

Next opponent: vs #5 LSU Tigers (5-0)

Florida went into Mississippi State last weekend and pulled out an upset victory on the backs of their defense. Beating a top 25 team on the road was enough to move the Gators past USF for the number 3 spot. Florida welcomes in LSU this weekend for a game that could reshape these power rankings completely.

4. South Florida Bulls (4-0, 1-0 AAC) (Last Week: 3)

Last week: Bye Week

Next opponent: at Massachusetts Minutemen (2-3)

USF had a bye week last week and ended up being passed by the Gators. USF is in a very difficult spot to be in seeing as they play zero Power 5 teams the rest of the way. The best chance the Bulls have to move up in these rankings comes the final week of the regular season when they take on UCF.

5. Florida State Seminoles (3-2, 1-2 ACC) (Last Week: 7)

Last Week: at Louisville Cardinals (2-3) W 28-24

Next Opponent: at #17 Miami Hurricanes (4-1)

FSU was able to pick up their first ACC win of the year, as well as their first road victory in 2018, after a comeback win against Louisville last week. This win put FSU ahead of FIU and FAU since they now have a more impressive victory than either of those two teams. This next month for FSU will tell us a lot about this team as they have games against both Miami and Clemson.

6. Florida International Panthers (3-2, 1-0 CUSA) (Last Week: 6)

Last Week: vs Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions (1-4) W 55-9

Next Opponent: Bye Week

FIU bounced back from a disappointing performance by beating a team that nobody had ever heard of. That win was not enough to keep the Panthers ahead of FSU. FIU just does not have a win that can rival a road win vs a Power 5 team. FIU does not play any more Power 5 teams this season and will have to rely on other people to lose if they are to make a jump in the rankings.

7. Florida Atlantic Owls (2-3, 0-1 CUSA) (Last Week: 5)

Last Week: at Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (2-2) L 25-24

Next Opponent: vs Old Dominion Monarchs (1-4)

I am done giving FAU the benefit of the doubt. Even in the two games that they won, FAU has not looked very good. The Owls are sitting at 7 for the first time this year. Like so many other teams on this list, FAU has no Power 5 teams on their schedule and will have to rely on other teams losing if they want to get out of the number 7 spot in the near future.
