This is a hurry-up edit of the entire game, so you can skip over Stanford on offense if you want.

I'm not saying Golden and D'Onofrio will be able to install their defense here, but this MIGHT be a glimpse of what they're TRYING to build.

They mix between man and zone, off and press, blitzes from different vantage points, etc...

Again, Golden/MDO may not be capable of getting this to work, but you can see the potential of it when run properly.

The problem I have with running this style of D is:
1) we have better access to much better athletes than Stanford

2) Our defensive play-calling at times seems random and predictable. Random is the sense that there have where we've played zone in situations where every other team wouldn't. I don't think I have to give examples of when we've been predictable

It not the type of D thats the problem. Most recent of college and NFL teams are switching to this style of D. Its the guy at the controls!

Also Stanford kids are a lot smarter than Miami kids. You're gonna be able to teach them more nfl like defenses.

Disappoints me to say because I thought a more modern scheme could work here, but I'm starting to think all south Florida kids are capable of is. "Meet me at the qb" and press man coverage. Zones and gap assignments and large play books seem like they're too much for them.

They're in their third season here, I'm confident in thinking what we see is what we will be getting defensively. It doesn't take three seasons to get your install your defense.

Well, Stanford kids would be able to run a complex scheme, maybe.

Book smarts ain't football smarts, necessarily. But I bet it don't hurt.

I think to get the best idea of what Golden wants you just have to watch the Temple games. That will tell you what kind of defense he wants to run here and is already currently running here.

Oregon was actually moving the ball on Stanford in the 1st half. They were in the redzone twice and failed to get in.
Also, Stanford's best defense was their offense as they control the clock keeping it for an astonishing 42 minutes to Oregon's 17.
Stanford was converting their 3rd downs. I would venture to say that if Stanfords offense was as bad as ours in converting 3rd downs their defense would suffer a bit.

Stanford controlled the LOS on both sides of the ball. Offenses and defenses look a whole lot better when that happens.

I wouldnt look at it that way. ALOT of SFL kids make it to the league and somehow figure it out when they get there. I'm just not sure we are taking full advantage of what alot of college's come down here to recruit... SPEED! We're recruiting DL with some of the quickest and most explosive first-step in the nation and we're teaching them to hold their blocks and let LBs make the tackle. I dont know about that...

Also, alot of SFL LBs are undersized for their positions. With the emphasis being on recruiting bigger bodies, are we going to stop recruiting playmakers. Sean Spence and DP52 have been our best defensive players for the last 6 years. Both are 'undersized', especially for what Golden/D'Onofrio would like to see @ LB. Now that the cupboard isnt bare, are we going to overlook players like this??? I mean, How many 230lb LBs are there in Dade and The Muck??

I understand what Golden/D'Onofrio are trying to install sysmatically, but I just think it forces kids who've been taught "see ball, hit ball" and forces them to play a certain way that puts them at a disadvantage.

The kids on Alabama and FSU's defense are no smarter than ours. Most of our guys aren't from South Florida anyway.
