Maybe it's been answered before but why does Miami hold 3-4 practices take a week off for spring break then resume practice?

Gives the players a "choice" IMO.

Go party it up on SB or work hard and get an extra week of lifting or practicing on your own.

Seperate the lazies from the Alex fiqeuroas.

If I remember correctly I saw Al talking about it, and he said it allows them to "install" a few things and then have time for the players to absorb it.

Because the players are students of the university and they are entitled to have a spring break.

The OP isn't disputing the kids needing a break from school. He's more so asking why the current format exists and why Golden has it that way. Al already said it's to assist the kids with processing the installation of any playbook additions.

I believe it does 2 things, first it allows the players to get adjusted to intense spring practices before a relaxation period. its like working on a job and then taking a week vacation after a month. once you come back you are refreshed and ready for work again. 2nd it allows you to squeeze information in a short time period and see who is ready to play or the people who are behind the curve a bit. Golden loves to use psychology when it comes to his players and i think its one philosophy he uses to get in the mind of the players to understand this is business.

If it is the way we have done it the last couple years, then changed it. If it is a new idea, worth a try.

It puts the kids into "football" mental mode before running off to alcohol fueled parties with naked co-ed's.

The good ones will continue the "football" mentality and hit the gym/playbook hard as **** for spring break. The rest will party.

Al will know exactly who did which within 20 mins of the first practice back and adjust the depth chart accordingly.

The number of practices are limited by the NCAA rules. Spreading out the practices over time gives players time to heal between those practices. On off days the team leaders without the coaches can meet and practice new formations, plays and skills like the Friday night when Art Kehoe was in the baseball stadium and it was reported by the West Palm Beach paper Kehoe was watching them practices about 300 yards away in the press box at Mark Light. This way players can practice on their own and come back to show what they learned with the coaches.

Splitting practice over Spring Break just breaks up the day to day grind so they stay focused and fresh when the go back to the 2nd half of spring practice.

That sounds nice and reasonable. My question is when do they start practicing kicking the crap out of people? I know today's football is all high-tech and brainy, but when I was young, I was very smart. Maybe if I played Oline, that might have helped, but I played Dline and IQ points didn't help me on the football field much at all. What did help was a quick first step and really good Deacon Jones head slap(yeah it drew a few penalties). See after 1st and 2nd string OTs were on sideline trying to figure when the 440 started, the 3rd string guy just sorted ducked and served his QB up nice and neat.

Nothin says lovin like a smash in the mouth. All the fancy gap this and cover that stuff means nothing if you do not deliver pain each and every defensive down(oh that works for Oline too, if they are so inclined, PLEASE!) How many yards did Tamarick Vanover have against THE U AFTER Mike planted him on that fancy little short pass play of FSU? Let's try hitting people, just saying.
