Spring observations after two weeks

We're two weeks into spring practice - with a break in between - and the team is about to ramp up with full pads. At this point, I'd like to share some big-picture observations about what I'm seeing on Greentree:

- Let's start with the obvious: we won't know what we have until #11 is lining up behind the center. Last year, we had a much better idea because Cam Ward was healthy. This year is a less complete picture.

Throw the bank at LB when portal opens up. Inability to improve at that position could cost us the first game vs Notre Dame as both teams are comparable on both lines of scrimmage. Dont see game 1 being pass heavy by either team. Oh, and if you're in an accident, call Anidjar & Levine.

Hmmm… hearing Lofton being described like he’s Ty Montgomery/Cordarrelle Patterson (not as fast clearly but versatility) type, if we don’t maximize his skill set to ours and his advantage Imma be ****ed. Because why have nice things if you’re not going to use them right?

And I know you didn’t say those names specifically @DMoney but when you write about him those names popped in my head. Looks like he’s in for a great season.

Question for @DMoney how do you see Lofton getting touches this year mostly? Through the passing game or do you see him getting handoff in the backfield? Also how many touches a game do you think the coaches will shoot for with him?

The regression of the offense is going to be bigger than I thought if Lofton is our best player on that side of the ball. No shade at him. We just have to replace our entire offense, so

Really hard to judge the offense with no real functional QB.

We really need Luke Nickel to pick up the playbook etc fast. When Beck went down UGA had a decent backup. Doesn’t sound like we have that.

Gonna be tough to judge a defense when we don’t have a QB with the ability to put any pressure on them

Seems like the overall roster is getting better with less dead weight so that’s good. Just gotta wait it out until Beck gets back

LBs must be a struggle if we haven’t seen a single report from anyone with kool aid to talk them up other than “talent is there”

I was in the boat about playing the young guys till we figure it out but start the feelers and bring in a proven guy… this defense can’t be a liability three years in a row and be the reason we miss the playoffs again

Linebackers and QB depth are definitely the weakest links on this team

Five of the playoff teams in Texas, Indiana, SMU, Georgia, Penn State All had to rely on their back up QBs to come in and win meaningful games for them last year
