Plenty of our DBs have plenty of “speed”

We need dudes that know WTF they are doing and play their assignments well. Players look faster than their 40 times when they watch film and know where the ball is going and will be.

Yep. Iowa doesn’t have faster guys. They have smarter guys. By a lot.

No it isn’t. Such a lazy argument. Some people just aren’t smart enough and don’t process things quickly enough to play defense at this level.

You won’t answer this, but why do even the best teams see roster turnover every year? Why doesn’t Kirby Smart just coach them up?

Isn't it the coach's responsibility to find the players that fit the system and develop those players? Kirby has won two national championships. When you win, you get the benefit of the doubt. Mario is widely seen as an incompetent coach on gameday. He will always be a liability. Also, why do I get the vibe that you want Mario to be the coach here first and foremost and winning championships is a secondary priority to you. Perhaps we want different things.
 
Yeah let's throw that talk away. We've done the we have to get smaller and faster and we've done that we have to get bigger blah blah blah.

We just need some competent players and coaches.

Doesn’t do any good to be fast if you’re always running in /and to the wrong places….only thing you end up doing is running to the wrong place that much faster..

I will agree knowledgeable players are a must, however without speed it’s meaningless. Knowledge does not erase errors, but speed does. Speed kills. We need some killers on the Defense!

The smartest players are in the IVY League. Can you remind me of the number of Champions or NFL players coming out of the IVY league?

Mario just needs to bring in the Ivy League guys who run a 4.3 forty. Problem solved.

Agreed. Jaden Harris has 4.3 speed supposedly but he was getting burnt because he has zero clue where or what his assignment is. It also bleeds into his tackling in that he’s so lost he fails to even make routine tackles…

Speed is important if your scheme calls on corners to be alone on islands a lot… but we need to be teaching (or finding coach-able) players who can make the plays

he didnt add his weight well with his speed. Also, he is so confused at safety, it makes him play slow.
 
All I know is that georgia and texas DL lines and Lbs looked really fast

So OP does have a point

Funny but Oregon, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio St, Penn St, Texas, Clemson, etc all seem to find smart players with speed. No one said they had to have a genius IQ, but high football IQs. Guess you're happy with divas like Jacoilby George who make critical penalties like he did against 'Cuse trying to show he's some type of tough guy
