1. Tim Ferris does an excellent job facilitating the podcast.
2. Flaherty DEFINITELY knows his stuff about performance training.
3. I’m sure there’s things he knows/does/believes that he may not have conveyed the best on the podcast. So I’m not criticizing at all.
4. I’m not sure I’m convinced about his force plate numbers being a predictor of specific performances ...but, I haven’t seen his research either.
5. Hex bar dead’s for him ... Hip thrusts for Brett Contreras (also knows his stuff)…I think...may be oversimplifying but this also falls into the same vein of the force plate numbers...need to see more.
Having said all that. If I were looking for a sprint coach to train me for the Olympics, he easily wouldn’t be in the top-50 (even though I believe he does understand the training), maybe not even the top-100. He mentions, in reverential tones, Dan Pfaff - and rightfully so. Dan has coached several friends of mine. I’ve consulted with him as well. Loren Seagrave (look him up). Pat Henry (TxA&M). (Believe it or not they were all on the same staff at LSU at one point; I was at Loren’s wedding). The list goes on and it includes tons of coaches with Level II or higher certifications (US or IAAF) and even a few without.
I say all that because prior to listening to this podcast I had never in my life heard of Ryan Flaherty. But, I wouldn’t have had a need to, either.
